Trendy only makes you look stupid a few years later and laughable ten years later. Remember the Vanilla Ice haircut or the Hammer Pants? What do you mean "ten years later"? Was the "pants worn halfway down the posterior" trend not laughable the first time you saw it? Of course. But it was still accepted by the bulk of society. I thought the vanilla ice haircut and hammer pants were stupid when THEY came out too. It's funny... I've worn the same shit all my life; tees, flannel shirts, blue jeans, boots/tennis shoes, skull jewelry, tattoos, piercings and I have always had long hair and either stubble/growth or beard/goatee, depending on how lazy and hazy my week was. The stubble was called "Miami Vice" in high school. Then the flannel was called "grunge" five-ten years later. My rock tees were "retro". And my skull jewlery was "nu metal" or neo-biker or who the fucks knows what. My tattoos and piercings are now what everybody is doing from the 16 year old girl in pink to the soccer mom. The goatee was thought to be "funny looking" when I started doing it in the late 80's, then it was "hip" and I was accused of riding the wave of what was "in". I specifically shaved the goatee and grew a beard because of it. I went out of my way NOT to be associated with a trend. Thing is, I haven't changed a fucking thing, it's everyone else who changes the labels! Meh. So I totally avoid trends. It's just making some asshole rich as people consume them. I need to be comfortable first and foremost. The rest is secondary to my comfort.

I need to be comfortable first and foremost. The rest is secondary to my comfort. Totally agree. I tend to have a similar sort of thing going, although I'm probably a bit more minimalist. It's just usually shorts, T-shirt and thongs (the kind you wear on your feet (just a precaution in case anybody had a smartarse idea)) and not much else. I personally don't like tattoos and piercings and my facial hair forms a layer of fuzz at the very most. The reasoning of comfort first is the same though (the climate here makes the minimalist look the most comfortable by a wide margin), as well as cheapness ("trendy" clothes stores tend to be worse value than hummers). I guess that being a young'un I've seen more of the tween/teen-specific trends, which tend to be even more fucking ridiculous and extortionate than the mainstream shit by a very wide margin. It amazes me what people will do just to be sheep.

I hate going clothes shopping. I'm pretty picky to begin with--I pretty much only ever wear solid colors and band t-shirts. But WTF is with the ruffles and frills on everything this season??? It's UGLY!!!! You guys have it easy--your clothing styles never change. Bah. BAH! says I. That's why I only buy clothes at stores like K-mart. You can get normal clothes rather than this "trendy" bullshit. Except I hate most of the clothes at those places too. Especially Wal-Mart; their clothes are really fugly. I have some band concerts coming up and I just wanted a nice black top and skirt to wear for them. You'd think that would be simple!! But oh no. I check the thrift stores all the time of course, but that's always a crap shoot too. -_-;;

Ugh, my weekend isn't going to be as much fun as it could have been. Some work that I did was good but I realised just then, after going home today (on the Friday), that there's an exception that applies to this but someone that doesn't know about that would think it is shoddy. Now I've got the reaction on Monday to look forward to.

But, see, 'simple' is out of fashion! You're not supposed to want plain, streamlined things--the froofier, the better! This is when you start hitting up friends for clothes to borrow, unless all of your friends are size two like mine are >.< Or do what I did and learn to sew--come on over to my place, you can use my sewing machine and I'll feed you. I can usually scrounge SOMETHING out of a department store or thrift store, though, even if I have to dig for it. That's still pissy and frustrating, though. *hugs*

I did find a dress I almost bought at Target, but then I looked and it was made in China, and it had no laundering instructions OR materials listed on the tag, nothing. Yeah, not buying that shit, thanks.

I am really sick of having to wear conservative clothes. Yeah, I know , they're classic. But it's what suits my body type so I have to. I try to wear cool jewellery.

I'm pissed at the stupid weather today. Instead of sunny and 50*+ like they were SAYING it was going to be, it's actually cloudy and about 36*. GRRRR. *shakes fist*
