I saw this in my bio class. It's pretty cool, but I feel for the poor rats. At least predators kill you before digestion. Fungus doesn't always do that. I wouldn't call it a predator, but they definitely eat live things. Tai, you deserve an award of some kind. What the girly robot said. And yeah, nature is fucking cruel. The only reason that most predators kill their prey is so it doesn't fight back. If it's not able to fight, well, it doesn't matter if it's alive or not.

Soon we'll discover plants big enough to swallow a human being!... At least, some unlucky explorers will...

Or some lucky mad scientist. What kind of mad scientist discovers things ze could create? Fungus doesn't always do that. I wouldn't call it a predator, but they definitely eat live things. Tai, you deserve an award of some kind. What the girly robot said. And yeah, nature is fucking cruel. The only reason that most predators kill their prey is so it doesn't fight back. If it's not able to fight, well, it doesn't matter if it's alive or not. That's why microscopic things tend to not care if you're in pain. Or how much of you they're eating. Hey, check it out, ringworm! Doesn't kill you, but eats muscles. Much nicer than the nightmare fuel I am going to give you now. Just so you know, the ant in the first one may still be alive. They look fine because the fungus doesn't eat their exoskeletons. It uses its tendrils to digest the meat from the inside, then blooms, leaving a hollow shell.

I don't like disgusting things. Science is okay, though!

But, biology is science and is all about disgusting things.
You wouldn't believe how nauseating the human body can be.

Unless you're doing microbiology or ecology, chances are good that there will be disgusting things. And sometimes those are disgusting too. Alzheimer's plaques are sickening when you realize what you're looking at.

Oh, microbiology has disgusting, when you're talking about medical microbiology. And those pictures there were mycology, also a part of microbiology.
Not so sure about ecology, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was also disgusting.

That's actually...horrible. Horribly awesome more like it. It's a pity it probably smells like rotting meat. I don't want to be slowly dissolved by acids.

I just think that the most disgusting level in biology is the organ/organism level.

Oh, I see, when I think microbiology I think bacteriology or virology or mycology and also their effects on the organs. But, I think we're agreed, the disgusting stuff is at the organ to organism level.
