I pay attention to these things. I noticed that one too! I'm guessing it was a goof on CC's part. Something that confuses me more: I've noticed that on some shows words such as "ass" and "hell" are censored, yet others such as "bitch", "bastard", "damn" and "dick" are left in. I've also heard a few F-bombs (rarely though) slip through too. TV censorship is seriously screwed up. For example, Comedy Central will allow the word ass, but not asshole. So if Steven Colbert says asshole, they will leave the word ass alone and bleep out the word hole. Some stations allow damn, but not Goddamn, so they leave damn and bleep out God. If my English teacher is to be believed, that's a loophole: Ass can technically refer to a donkey, which is okay, but asshole can only refer to the anus.

I've just been playing "Burnout Paradise", and have discovered that somewhere in the world, "Damn" is considered too strong for general audiences. That's "damn" when used in the context of...the name of an Avril Lavigne album.

What about the hole I throw the donkey in when he's been naughty?

Most of the time, in context, the meaning of ass is unambiguously non-equine.

Ergo, it can slip through. That's how a loophole works.

Interesting how Censorship plays out in different areas of the world. Here in Germany we have no censorship of swearing words in the media, although they are considered bad taste. Everything considering sexuality is also not a big deal. We had kissing men in afternoon television since at least 1996.
On the other hand: Violence is far more outlawed (especially bloodshed in vdeogames) and use of Nazi symbols in Games leads to a Ban. Oh and books like "Mein Kampf" aren't sold, except in antiquaries. Wearing a swastika is punishable and you go to jail for denying the Holocaust.
Different priorities all around the world.

Ok, let's do a survey. I've never seen a single program on broadcast TV back home that has been censored, neither in word or sight.
Does your country censor speech and broadcasts? Are words bleeped out and images blurred?

While I hate censorship, I do find the censorship of God very amusing. There was a kerfuffle a while back when a guest on Oprah or some similarly idiotic show got bleeped for saying "Thank you! Thank you God!" Fundies weren't too happy.
