my article comment:
Have you ever walked into a little kid's game where they've made up all sorts of rules? So you're walking along and they're like "Ooh, you just stepped into lava!" (the lawn) "Oh, you got eaten by snakes because you touched the bush!"
That's basically what fundies are doing to people, except they're actually willing to hurt people for breaking their made-up rules. And trust me, they'd be the first to cry if some other group of fundies came in and called the lawn "broken glass" instead of lava.
The point is, don't stop playing these games if you're having fun, but don't drag people in that don't want to play.

This is the most succinct and easily-understandable analogy I've heard in a while. Thank you.

Too bad we can't just spank them and send them to their rooms when they get annoying.

If you were always angry when talking to Christians, you'd probably be pretty much constantly angry. It seems more likely that you become angry when around aggressive Christians with no social skills who view every person they meet as a potential conquest and are offended by the thought of anyone believing differently than them. In other words, the kind of people profiled on this site. If you are enraged and offended by the presence of any Christian, that would make you the kind of person that this person seems to think all atheists are, ie. an asshole. Beware of generalizations. check. mate. Though in my defense, usually the only people I know definitively to be Christians, are those who are overt about their faith, and hence annoying. Fair enough. I apologize on behalf of the annoying members of my faith. It may help you to know that many of them find their constant proselytization just as uncomfortable as you do.

You see, "your faith" is familiar to me. I come from a staunchly evangelical background, a background which has caused a good deal of mental and emotional damage to myself. Perhaps this better explains my strong reaction in opposition once I had been given the evidence needed to free myself from the mental burden of the idea of a god. It should also be noted that I am much more vocal in my opposition to aggressive fundamentalist Christianity online, which is in accordance with the way most people behave when protected by the anonymity of the internet. Internet Forum Cojones, as it were. In person I tend merely to give a "stay away" glare, say "no thanks" and to absent myself from the situation at the earliest possible interval. Perhaps I did not very clearly articulate myself in my original post. Allow me to be more specific with regard to real world situations. The "presence of any Christian", as you put it, does not bother me. I care not what religion an individual is when they are in my general vicinity, indeed, I usually don't even know what religion an individual may or may not be, unless they have indicated this in their wardrobe, on their car, or are holding a conversation with someone else regarding religious issues. For all of those things, I could care less, I ignore it, and continue on my merry way without a word. However, when approached by an individual for the purpose of evangelization or some sort of religious conversation, I may come off as angry, though never aggressive, as this is, to me, a particularly irritating invasion of my personal and intellectual space. When I said "I'm only angry around YOU, Christians", I should have said, "I'm only angry around YOU, aggressive fundamentalist evangelical proselytizers", however, I was under the impression that given the site, and given the fact that I had said just before that , "They're either aggravating me with the nonsense they spout off, or trying to convert me", that my intent would be a given. Forgive my lack of clarity, in the future I will endeavor to be much more precise. Your well-intentioned caution of "beware of generalizations" has been duly noted.

Paradox, according to that blog, I'm supposed to be irrationally, inhumanly pissed off at you.
Hold still while I bite off your ear & make it into an idol for Satan.

And I could tell you some stories about mental and emotional distress. I don't know if I'm going back to church, any church, after the events of the past few months. I may need to post about that.

Don't mind my nit picking. And I could tell you some stories about mental and emotional distress. I don't know if I'm going back to church, any church, after the events of the past few months. I may need to post about that. Please do, if in the future you feel comfortable sharing that, I for one would be interested in hearing about your experiences...and I'm not saying that in a mean-spirited way. And again, please excuse my biting back, I tend to turn into a female human version of Taz the Tazmanian Devil for a few days out of every month...I'd like PMS to be a stereotype with little to no grounding in reality, but...*sigh*
