."That's basically where we get a large percentage of our laws", Ritze says. "Thou shalt not steal. Thou shalt not kill."
So two is a large percentage?

If they were really trying to be correct, they would quote the Egyptian Book of the Dead, which predates Moses' trip up the mountain by at least 300 years.
I have not reviled the God. I have not laid violent hands on an orphan. I have not done what the God abominates . . . I have not killed; I have not turned anyone over to a killer. I have not caused anyone's suffering . . . I have not copulated (illicitly); I have not been unchaste. I have not increased nor diminished the measure, I have not diminished the palm; I have not encroached upon the fields. I have not added to the balance weights; I have not tempered with the plumb bob of the balance. I have not taken milk from a child's mouth; I have not driven small cattle from their herbage... I have not stopped (the flow of) water in its seasons; I have not built a dam against flowing water. I have not quenched a fire in its time . . . I have not kept cattle away from the God's property. I have not blocked the God at his processions.
But then they'd have to admit that not only are Christian doctrines not entirely original, but they also had the gall to borrow ideas from polytheistic religions that they believed to be irrevocably evil.

As these sort of laws have existed in about all societies regardless of whether or not they were Christian.

Also, many of our laws directly contradict the ten commandments. The ten commandments say "thou shalt have no other gods before me", but the constitution guarantees our right to have whatever gods we want. Likewise, the ten commandments say not to make idols, but we have the right to make whatever sort of idols suit our fancy. You've got to wonder if these people have read the constitution or the Bible.

Not to mention "thou shalt not covet" is the polar opposite of capitalism and how our economy is expected to work.

As these sort of laws have existed in about all societies regardless of whether or not they were Christian. Of course. They're just hoping to get around the Supreme Court's "the government's action must have a secular legislative purpose" by inventing one

Yeah, Wiccans. You won't be putting up any monuments to Satan-worship while Stupid McDumbfuck is on the case!
Though Representative McDumbfuck does raise a valid point: if the people who wanted these displays so badly asked themselves "would I be okay with a Wiccan display? With a Muslim one? With an atheist one?" (the atheist display would be a big empty room) they might just find their burning desire cranked down a notch.
Or maybe they'd keep being mouth-breathing cretins. Hard to say.
