Has anybody else watched this series? I think it will air in the US in summer 2009. Here's the trailer:
I quite enjoyed it. It's not very deep or thought provoking and there are some plot holes; historical accuracy is not a common place in the show either. But if you just want to lay back and get some entertainment, this is perfect. It lives from the characters, especially the banter and growing friendship between Merlin and Arthur, who are contemporaries in this series and initially despise each other. Because of the series Tag Line: "Keep the magic secret." it gets a little like Smallville (only the court physician Gaius knows of Merlin's secret). It is aimed at the whole family as an audience and it is not (!) faithful toward "Le Mort D'Arthur" (the version of the Arthurian Legend almost everybody is familiar with). But that is a bonus in my book, because I really can't watch another "faithful" Arthur story, knowing it will only end in death, betrayal and downfall. It could go this all to familiar way, but perhaps it wont. Or they wont reach this point of the plot during the series time line. And this possibility of not knowing, how it will end is at last for me a breath of fresh air.
Oh and be warned if you look on you-tube and co for clips of the series (you can find nearly the whole show there): The shippers have discovered the series too. And the favorite pairing is of course Merlin/Arthur. There is much subtext to support it, if you start looking for it and even some reviews mention it. Remember, it targets a family audience, so the show will most likely not go there. But I like such speculation, even if I don't like Shipping and Slash.
Favorite parts: The "rat stew", "you are a prat, but a royal one" and the witches aria (video below)
A second season will be produced during this year.
