For those crotchety types like me who don't trust newfangled 7th generation consoles - what with their blu-ray playin', polygon-renderin', GHz-havin' devilry - what sorts of old-fashioned tabletop-style games do you enjoy?
My personal favorite is Go, though I love Chess and Backgammon as well. In terms of more modern games, I'm a fan of Diplomacy - though not a fan of trying to organize a game - as well as Risk (with the right people) and Bang! - essentially Wild West-Themed Mafia/Werewolf played with cards.
Your preferences?

Cool, another Go fan!
I also like Labyrinth and NHL Icebreaker.

I'm always down for some Monopoly. The wife loves Apples to Apples, though it's not exactly a board game.

I'm a fan of chess and still try to get a game in every couple of weeks. Also have played Risk, Arkham Horror, LotR board game from Fantasy Flight, and several others. Bought, The Age of Conan: The Board Game, and plan on playing it this weekend.

I like Clue and Sorry. I also love Bingo, but I guess that's not really a board game.

Sweet, do you play on KGS ever? What's KGS? (I guess that would make my answer no). I mostly play Go on my Ps2, since it has a game that has a bunch of board games. Arkham Horror sounds cool, though bummer it's about $50. Take care, Jay

I play Life with my nephew quite a bit, he's only 9 but he kicks my ass every time.
When I was a kid I loved the TV show Emergency! and my dad found a board game of it for me one Christmas. I don't remember much about it now, I don't think we even actually played it more than once, but I loved it.
I also loved Operation, Clue, Mousetrap, Battleship & Trivial Pursuit. I keep trying to learn chess, but can never stay focused long enough.

I'm always down for some Monopoly. Hell yeah. That said, two things: 1. the Wikipedia entry for the game says it typically takes 1.5 hours to play. I can't recall a game of Monopoly ever being this short. Never mind sources, who edited that page thinking that was convincing? 2. isn't there an irony somewhere in how this game has a huge share of its market?

I like 'Clue'--bonus points are awarded for anybody who feels like acting out the accusations as they make them. It more or less goes without saying that alcohol is sometimes involved.
My dad taught me how to play both Othello and Chess, but I stink at both and haven't played either in about ten years.

I like sharing dark rum and Risk game with 4 or 5 friends. My Risk group refers to the game as "Backstab". We play to WIN!
I also have quite a collection of the old Avalon Hill war games, such as Stalingrad, D-Day, Midway, etc. Midway, by the way, is one of the greatest "battleship" style games out there. Don't get to play very often, anymore. Man, those games were bought in the 1960's.
I'm surprised I didn't here "Stock Ticker" mentioned. Used to play that one with my kids by the hour. Great, simple, fun little game.
The ultimate card game, in the history of the world is a game put out by Flying Buffalo, whose name I can't recall, all about nuclear war, with various population cards, missile cards, warhead cards and so on. Each player accumulates both population and weapons. Most games end in a draw, where everyone dies. Great little Dr. Strangelove game. Lots of laughs. Damn, now I gotta go find it. Shit. Has anyone heard of this game?

I still love Chess, though I have no patience.
I play Scrabble from time to time, though I have almost nobody to play with.
I loooooooove Trivial Pursuit.
Haven't played Clue in ages.
I'm more the D&D type.
