Because of crap I see on the news, or in person, I sometimes walk around with a chip on my shoulder about our collective level of ‘suck’ as a species.
I was watching Animal Planet this afternoon at work and saw a show about veterinarians and their assistants at an animal sanctuary somewhere in the US. There was also a program about this Finnish guy who has spent the last 20 years tracking and photographing several families of wolverines. These people and their commitment to preservation helped restore my faith in humanity – at least for today.
That raises an interesting question: what things help renew your “faith”?

My cat. He's not exactly human, but he sure as hell makes me feel better. He's kind of like a furry little antidepressant who only occasionally claws my legs.

My cat Nature shows The precious innocence of my two neices, yet uncorrupted by a cruel world.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

I don't renew it. There are a lot of fucking assholes in the world, I just try and surround myself with people who aren't assholes.

My friends, most of my family, good music and this forum. Seriously, if I found FSTDT without the forums I'd be completely insane by now. And somehow I'd still make more sense than the fundies.

I tend to not bother with renewing my faith in humanity anymore, although knowing of and reading about people who devote time and effort into caring for animals and running sanctuaries makes me feel a little less jaded toward people as a whole.

My faith in humanity used to fluctuate wildly but now I keep it under control with medication.

Meh, for every decent person there are several fuckwits (myself included). Personally I never really think too highly of humans in general, although I do try to bear in mind that because I am a part of it rather than an objective observer all I have to go on are my uber-subjective opinions and judgements.
...Oh Jesus that science philosophy course is getting to me. I'm turning into a uni student know-it-all, goddammit I hate those twats!
Meh, it's a welcome change from the overly-hormonal teen I suppose...

Children who are polite, nonjudgmental, and kind, despite how their parents act.
Also, fans of Blake and Lovecraft.

Because of crap I see on the news ...and that's your problem. Because 99.99% of the world never makes it onto the news, only what is "newsworthy". And what's newsworthy is usually chaotic or vapid depending on circumstance, so anyone who takes the news too seriously is convinced they live in a meaningless, chaotic world. This is probably how Rapture Ready comes about, or at least perpetuates, come to think of it.

I agree. We don't always agree or get along with each other, but if I need a dose of sanity, this is the place I come.
