I went over there, seems more like they want it banned at the state level, not the federal level.
They also don't seem to understand what Nixon did to circumvent having to put illegal drugs into the constitution.

I've long looked at it this way. It's not the marijuana that's the problem. It's the whiny little chronics who repeat the constant mantra "It's no worse than alcohol" and shit out their outdated storehouse of "facts" from potissocool.com. You're right, morons! It IS no worse than alcohol! It's also no better, and we cant manage the alcoholics we have let alone losers like you! And if you'd STFU about it and get a fucking job, I wouldn't be in favor of keeping it banned. There are those who can keep their habit sane, you're not the ones I'm bitching at The thing I find realyl odd is smoking. I mean I can understand why peopel start drimnking alcohol or taking drugs, but as far as I can see there really aren't many benefits of smoking. WHo's idea was it to put a load of burning plants in their mouth in the first place anyway? Aside from the religious aspects that are mentioned in other posts (marijuana was found in tombs/burial places dating back some 10,000 years back), smoking is something that has been discovered by nearly all races of people, through many layers of history. Seriously, it's pretty cool to breath smoke like a dragon, it's not a surprise to me that it became popular or at least a custom of sorts be it religious in nature or traditional or recreational. Add the fact that it gets one stoned and helps them see visions etc. and it doesn't surprise me in the least. And if we are going to compare it to booze; who was the first person to think tequila, literally a poisonous substance, was something that tasted good? Bitter ales? Booze has some versions that are sweet like fermented fruits, wine type stuff... and then nasty, make-ya-go-blind stuff too. Nobody is drinking non-alcoholic beer so the mind altering affects are definitely the selling point, not the taste. Pot and booze are lumped together much more than they should. They are similar in that people are willing to sometimes put things in proper perspective when they are compared side by side, but booze is and will forever be a much worse substance, causing much worse health and societal problems and leading to infinitely more death than pot. The comparisons bring Joe Six Pack within the neighborhood of reasonable discussion, but the balance is heavily favouring the weed over the booze.

I dunno... taste is a selling point of alcomohol for me. I get taste cravings, and I don't like alcoholic drinks unless I can seriously taste the alcohol in them, which is apparently in much higher quantities than most of my friends start detecting it. This should worry me, but it doesn't, which worries me.
And yes, weed is better societally than booze except for the fact that weed does worse things to the work force (lack of motivation as opposed to just getting there and being a dick), which is a driving factor for some reason I only partially understand. Also, firedancers dance prettier when they're stoned... dunno why, but it works on the Chicago tribe, so I say it's go. ^-^

RR is speaking favourably about legalizing marijuana? o.0 I have trouble wrapping my brain around that, personally. They're talking about it RATIONALLY, and in-depth, and people are actually saying "Well, why did God allow it to grow here?" Critical thinking! And hardly anybody is spouting cherry-picked Babble verses to show how a little Recreational Leaf Therapy (RLT) is TEH EBIL. Kind of interesting, actually. At least it shows they're maybe not COMPLETELY beyond hope. I think it proves that all many of the really need to do is smoke a fatty and chill the hell out.

I've supported the idea of legalizing marijuana for medical purposes for some time now, but if it were just legalized across the board I would like to see restrictions on it like there are on cigarettes. It could be a source of pretty big tax revenue for the government. XD
As for pot vs. alcohol, I agree that alcohol is by far the more dangerous substance. People who are spaced out on pot aren't going to go beat their ex-girlfriend to death or rob a store, and I suspect they're also less likely to be out driving. Marijuana has a mellowing effect. Alcohol...doesn't.
And that isn't even touching the biological effects of either.

The only thing that scares me about possible legalization is the industrialization of the enterprise.
I don't want my pot to be laced with chemicals the way tobacco is. Of course, open sales would make it safe for more localized and specialized "boutique" weed - a la Amsterdam.

Health Canada tried to grow some for medical usage, turned out to be crap.
My question was, since we have all these expert horticulturists currently locked up, why not request some help?
