And we can all help make it clear about pics and who wants them & who doesn't and help each other maintain those boundaries. That was going to go into the PMs I'm planning to send out come May. Give folks some time to think about it.

Sleepy, where are you in general in the US? Mid-Atlantic.

How far away from West Virginia, would you say?

I'd estimate about 50 miles, maybe. I'm not great at this, mind you.

Is there anything you guys want to see or do while in DC? I'm not going to set up a tour of the Capitol so we can all yell at senators, nor will I set up something at the White House so we can group hi 5 Obama, but if there's anything else let me know. ETA to add- To help anyone (like me) wondering what there is to do within a comfortable walk from The National Mall, I've linked a thingy about various exhibits from teh Smithsonian website.

I have an itching to go see the National Museum of Crime and Punishment (because they just got Ted Bundy's VW and also because it's right up my alley because I'm sick like that), but it's undeniably NOT most people's cup of tea. (And I think it's a bit of a schlep, as well.) The American Indian Museum is right on the mall with the rest of the museums, though, and I liked that.

I'd estimate about 50 miles, maybe. I'm not great at this, mind you. Sleepy, I'm more than happy to try to figure out how to meet you, if you want to meet a friendly face pre-June. I live in Morgantown, WV which is practically on the border of Pennsylvania. I'm assuming you're probably on the Ohio side of WV. As to what we should do, I have no preference. I think it should be something where people can socialize without drawing down looks from other people. I love museums, but my experiences in them tend to all have been quiet ones -- people want to look at stuff and contemplate it without listening to a group babble on, which I assume most of us probably will be babbling on. I'm fine with museums. But if there is something more ...social?...in the area, that might be the better bet for the number of people, dynamic, etc. But I do love museums, so being in one won't be a disappointment to me!

I've been thinking about that as well. I'm afraid it'll be too warm for everyone to enjoy something outside all day (like the Nat'l Zoo) and there's not much to attract everyone other than the museums. Maybe some sort of monument walk? I'm really not sure.

Ooh! I'm totally up for this!
I would prefer to ride along with someone, if anyone is within driving distance of New York City (and willing to make the trip). I can take other means of transit, but it would be much better with some company. I can pitch in some cash for petrol and/or road snacks.
Also, I'm willing to hand out my email & cell number, via PM, to any of you that want 'em. I will request a reminder of some sort when the date looms closer, because my ability to check this thread is not always assured.

I'll be sure to send you a PM. As far as getting you to D.C., I can't help much. If you can make it to Baltimore, I should be able to do something.

Hey guys, just FYI. I think I might be out for the fifth. I got a dog-sitting job and as much as I love all of you and want to be there, I need the money. I have to go walk the mutts at 11am and be back before 6pm, so I won't be able to be in Union Station at eleven. I won't ask everyone to shove the whole thing up a few hours just for one person. If the whole meetup is going to last longer than 1pm, maybe someone could phone me or something and I can hop on Metro and meet everyone at whatever museum you've decided on for a little while.

I don't know if this will be useful for anyone, but if you're taking the Northeast Regional Amtrak train, if you book your tickets at least 14 days in advance, tickets are discounted 25%.

Okay, uhm, don't mean to be a pill about this but it's about two weeks to the meetup. Are we going to exchange cell numbers and stuff? I'll need someone to get in touch with on that Saturday because even though I can come I have to come late. (Dog stuff.) Someone has tell me which museum you're all going to so I can run in several hours too late.
