I know the Smithsonian castle. I could get there. I haven't been since last year, but I can get that far without getting lost. Anything outside of the museums, though, I'm totally dumb and don't know anything about. Will need a guide.
Also, I've been agonizing over this for a couple of days because I don't know how to say it, but I figure I have to say it anyway. I know some of the people (DV and Rookie, possibly others, I don't have a roster or anything) that might be coming to this meetup have kids. Are kids coming? I'm not intending to be deliberately belligerent or incite a riot or anything, but if people are bringing their kids, then I'm not going. I don't want to be a bitch about it, but I just don't like kids and won't want to spend an afternoon around them. Please don't feel like the entire thing needs to be scrapped and started over again, I just want to know if kids are coming so I can make my plans accordingly. (Go ahead, get out your flamethrowers and lam into me.)

I know DC as well as I know quantum physics. Which is to say, not at all. Of course, someone will have to drive me anyway since I don't have a damn license.

I'm actually with Cait on the kids thing...
Also, I'll be showing up at a train station, so I'll need cell phone numbers of someone who can meet me there and take me to where everyone else is.

Metro or Amtrak or something? Because Metro is fairly easy to navigate, and I say that as someone who has no sense of direction and frequently gets lost in her own neighbourhood. The station at Smithsonian actually comes out right near the castle. But yes, cell numbers would be good once we get closer to the time. So we can play a cellular version of 'Marco Polo' in the nation's capitol. OH BOY SUCH FUN.
And re: kids--I'm not trying to blackmail anyone into doing what I want, it's just that I'd like to know before I make my plans whether or not kids will be there. Whatever you guys decide is fine with me, just let me know in advance.

Since we're talking about bringing kids, I'd like to throw out there that I feel more comfortable around kids than adults and I wouldn't mind a bit if some members brought their children.

The late May/early June thing sounds good. I agree with Cait about the kids, too. Also, I don't know my way around DC. If I did go, my father would drive me, and I think he can figure it out. I can't navigate at all.

Also, I'll be showing up at a train station, so I'll need cell phone numbers of someone who can meet me there and take me to where everyone else is. The main train station in DC, I think it's Union Station(but don't hold me to that) is only a few blocks from the National Mal,l where the various Smithsonian museums are. It's like a 5 minute walk tops, you'd just need to look at a map to find your way. Also, I'm in for the meetup.

Union Station sounds like a plan. The Metro is way easier than trying to drive and it's easy enough to find it and each other. When it gets closer to time I can post exact details as far time and other important things.
And I plan on leaving the Rooklets at home for this. Mine are young and can't really handle a full day of that much excitement. And I wouldn't want to worry about keeping track of them and meet you all at the same time. But I'm not going to tell anyone else what to do with theirs'. Take that for what it's worth.

So right now I'm thinking Saturday, June 5th about 11:00 at Union Station. Maybe we can have a nice FSTDT lunch before we hit the museums. I do welcome any ideas you may have about what to do and maybe a better time.
I know it's only not quite February right now and the beginning of June is far away. About the first week of May I'm going to ask again who's in and will give out my phone number and etc via PM. I for one look forward to meeting up with you.

Based on where my calendar stands right now, I could do a day trip on 6/5. This is, of course, contingent on what happens in the next couple of months. But I would love to meet people. Rookie, I'm especially looking forward to meeting you and m52nickerson -- nick, aren't you coming from a lo-ong way?

I am looking forward to meeting you in person, DV.
That is unless I turn out to be a villain in this place

I think there is room for everybody, or at least there should be.

Villain? Nah. Just because problems happen in the IRC doesn't vilify someone across the entire site. They may be connected, but they are distinctly different culture groups.
On topic, I'm not sure I'll be showing up. I appear to be moving to a new apartment mid-May, so I may still be settling in around June (also, money... deposits are expensive).
