I don't know how to comment on this, other than I am disturbed and outraged. I mean, I know this kind of crap still happens unfortunately, but that doesn't make it any less infuriating. Race may be factor in police shooting of unarmed elderly man.I find the last few paragraphs to be particularily telling. "People here are afraid of the police," said Terry Willis, vice president of the Homer NAACP branch. "They harass black people, they stop people for no reason and rough them up without charging them with anything."
That is how it should be, responded Russell Mills, Homer's police chief, who noted the high rates of gun and drug arrests in the neighborhood.
"If I see three or four young black men walking down the street, I have to stop them and check their names," said Mills, who is white. "I want them to be afraid every time they see the police that they might get arrested. We're not out there trying to abuse and harass people—we're trying to protect the law-abiding citizens locked behind their doors in fear."

In before m52nickerson shows to to defend police terrorism.
That last quote is truly appalling. I'm at a loss for words.

WTF, that shit still goes on in this day and age? It's the 21st century for fucks sake!
Hopefully we'll be seeing a national crackdown on this sort of thing over in America, with the rest of the world following suit... Yeah I know, that'll never happen, but it's a nice thought.

The fuck? This could be summed up as "we're not racist but, all black people ARE criminals". Why even bring race into the last quote, it's just overt racism.

Thanks for the love perv!
Actually I think the Police Chiefs comments are way out of line. If that is the way he is running that police force there absolutely should be investigations. The chief himself should get fired.
As for the shooting whether the victim had his gun in his hand or not really does not matter. The officers should have never put them selfs in that situation. If the they needed to question that kid and pulled up and they see a large gathering of people they should have waited to talk to him another time as not to cause an incident, which is exactly what happened. Even if they had to talk to him right then the first thing you do is secure the gun, the article stated that everyone know the older man keeped it on the porch.

Anyone else hope that Mills goes to jail, and ends up with a black cell mate?
I want him to be afraid every time he sees a black that he might be violated. I'm not trying to preach harassment or abuse; I'm just trying to protect the law-abiding negroes....

Motivating through terror just creates a population that wants to remove the threat. Dumb.

I remember watching a crime show on the Discovery Channel afew weeks ago. The first crime was a robbery, they immediately went and arrested two black dudes walking down the street nearby. It turned out they did it but it was still fast as hell they decided they did it. The next case a 'suicide' victim was called in by a cop, except she had been shot in the back of her head and had her driver's license out like she was showing it to someone. After that the officer who called it in 'lost' his gun when they tested every officer's. they found it with all the testable parts removed in his truck and a box of the bullets she was shot with in his closet. I then turned off the TV in disgust because they still werent sure it was a cop who did it.

Yeah, I've seen too many of these stories. It's really depressing. My stepbrother (Calgary city Police) basically refuted it by saying if you've been bit by a certain breed of dog a bunch of times is it irrational to hate that breed of dog?
Then again, he's a man who tortures small children and animals.

Racism and Fundie-ism exist anywhere but when it's people power like police officers or therapists it's worse and gets more publicity because these people violated their duties to whom they serve.

I bet they've been bit by a lot of white folks. The only real argument I can see here is that black people stick out, and that's really digging a grave.

People only notice so many black criminals because they are subconsciously looking for black criminals. At some level they already believe there is a high numer of black criminals so they automatically notice evidence supporting them.
