Don't Christians have the highest rates of porn addiction? Maybe if they weren't so sexually repressed, they wouldn't be addicts.

It reminds me of a quote from The Simpsons: "Ralphy, you know you're not supposed to go in there. What is your fascination with my Forbidden Closet of Mystery?" A funny thing happens when you tell someone to avoid something at all costs like that. It makes them curious. They try it, they find out they like it, then they get all conflicted because it seems like it isn't bad, but they've always been told that it is. Then they go nuts and have to go to boot camp to win back the approval of their religious authority figures.

Am I the only one who, when first reading the thread title, thought "You mean there's a boot camp for getting you addicted to porn? Sweet!" I love you.

OCCASIONALLY buying a magazine or renting a movie is in no way an addiction. It only becomes a problem if it's upsetting the spouse or partner. This is an interesting point. I'm not sure if I agree though. Logically of course you are correct. There's no reason they should see it as a problem. But if they do see it as one, than it is, isn't it? Psychologists classify paraphilias as disorders when either, they hurt someone else, or cause the patient distress. By the same token, isn't porn addition a "problem" if it causes you distress? Or to look at it another way, if someone rents porno once or twice a month, that's not evidence of an addiction in it self. But if they believe it's wrong and can't help doing it anyway then it might actually be an addiction, albeit a minor one that wouldn't normally be harmful.

Aren't fundies are in favor of porn again? What do you mean by "again" and "in favor"? When have fundies ever been in favor of porn?

Only if they think you can be "cured" of your unholy sexual depravity. Otherwise, they'll just have you murdered.

Oh God, I was just reminded of Boston Legal. Where the judge keeps saying "Ho-Mo-Sexual," and Alan Shore finally replies with "And there's those three small words again," or something to that effect. So if I pretend to be gay a church will give me porn? Interesting. You know, I don't even need to pretend. Only if they think you can be "cured" of your unholy sexual depravity. Otherwise, they'll just have you murdered. Ooooooooooon the other hand....

But doesn't that still cause you to lust? It's trying to stop one sin by committing another. How can they justify that? Oh,wait... fundies also justify murdering abortion doctors, so I guess they can somehow. Also, if it's okay in that situation, why isn't it okay at other times? If I have to keep taking allergy medicine to stop my sneezing, shouldn't I also keep looking at porn to stop me from turning gay?

Well, first of all, lust is a SIGNIFICANTLY less-serious sin than homosexuality. And anyway, lust is only a sin if a woman has it, because women are supposed to be pure and not enjoy sex--it's totally okay in men, because they're men. So your argument fails to hold water.
And second of all, once you've de-gay-ified yourself you should NEVER go back. After all, after you've discovered the myriad joys that come from being TOTALLY HETERO, you should never want to go back to sticking your penis in other men's butts. It's a one-time fix, like treating pneumonia. So again, you fail to argue effectively.
