www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29836292/?GT1=43001Is this ironic? Or simply representative of a genetic component in depression? Either way, this is another tragedy for his family to bear. The article notes that he was an evolutionary biologist. Obviously this was the ultimate cause of his suicide.

Well, depression can be genetic, like in my family; however, his stepmother committing suicide is a horrible coincidence as well.

could definitely be due to genetic depression.
Anyway, it's sad.

His father might have been attracted to a woman with similar issues to Sylvia Plath's. Anyway, it's sad, and I hope it does show some people that depression and suicidality can be genetic.

Depression runs in my family as well. If he was suffering from it without medical help, I can understand why he did it given the few times mine flared up when I was a kid. I can only hope and pray for his family.

err...not to try to sound facist or anything but shouldn't this be in the lounge or general board sections? I thought this area was for discussing board issues resulting from the move and for suggestions pertaining to improveing the board?
Sorry but no one else has even metioned that this thread belongs elsewhere, so I did.
Sad that the man killed himself, statistically it has been shown that children of suicides do in turn commit suicide at a somewhat higher rate. Makes you wonder what drove him to do it after 47 years on earth. Barring 'euthanasia' suicides amongst the elderly it is most often done by the young during the teen angst years.
What changed in his life to make him seek a way out? It will be interesting to see if anyone can shed some light as the story develops, or will it be just another case where everyone is mystified as to his motivations?
