So who plays an instrument, and what do you play?
I personally play the guitar.

I played trombone for like 12 years. Gave it up because anxiety attacks and deep breathing don't go well together. Hope to resume some day.
I've been playing guitar for a few years now. Mostly folk or riddem geetar stuff. Bass as well, but not super funk bass or anything cool like that.
Keyboard kind of poorly. Never had a lesson, mostly used it for theory courses.
And I sing. and sometimes scream. Not often, but sometimes.
Love to learn drums, but the tear in my leg makes it hard to do much with my foot. Can still keep a decent four pattern with sticks though.

I play, mostly flute and saxophone. Self-taught clarinet. Had some guitar lessons and some piano lessons. My favorite to play is jazz. I also do a lot of musical theater; right now we're gearing up for The Producers. See member picture thread; I've posted a few in there of me with my instruments.

Since everybody else is, I suppose I should go into a little more detail. I've been playing guitar seriously for about 2 years now, but I've always been fooling around with friends guitars so I already knew my way around the intrument pretty well. I play all sorts of stuff from bluesy - jazzy tunes to more punk rock and metal stuff.

I played trumpet starting out for about... 6 years, then I've played french horn ever since. Those are my main instruments. (I miss playing so badly...I still keep my embouchure in shape by playing on my mouth piece. I had a french horn at one point, but I was forced to sell it to make rent...along with my viola)
As for other instruments, I did piano for a while, viola, trombone (valve, not slide), and a bit of flute. I tried clarinet, but I just cant seem to stop spit and air from flying out of the sides of my mouth whenever I play. XD I think I'm not biting down on the reed properly.

Recorder, who the fuck hasn't?
Acoustic Guitar, mostly those cheeky love songs like "Swing Life Away" by Rise Against.
Electric Guitar, metal that's simple to play but make you feel badass when you play it, think Guardians of Asgard by Amon Amarth.
Bass Guitar, more metal, athough this stuff is a bit harder to play. Mostly blackend death metal and the like. Think Behemoth and shit. Actually the new band I'm in is sort of like a cross between Behemoth and In Flames.
Vocals, I don't like my singing voice, although other people tell me it's amazing, I'm pretty sure it's them trying to be nice. Also False Chords and Death Growls (pfft same thing).
Example of people who do False Chords are Mitch Lukers, I think Glen Benton and Dave Suzuki do them as well, Phil Bozeman definatly does them, both John Gallagher and Sean Beasley do them. For those of you who don't know, False Chord are both Scream and Death Growls, only done at lower pitches if you will. I don't know how to Fry Scream yet.
Piano, uh shit, alot of this is stuff that I improve but it's more in the sort of slower and less technical form of classical music.
Want to learn drums, badly. But sadly havn't had the time.

Recorder counts as an instrument?
Bitchin', except I could only play Hot Cross Buns, but then again who fucking can't?
I think I lost my recorder anyways. Although I've had nothing to do with it since grade 4 music class.
Would like to play bass.

Recorder is something I enjoy from time to time, I'd rather play an Ocarina, but they are usually made of glass so I'm scared shitless of dropping and breaking one. I have the worst luck with breakable shit. If you do take up bass, don't use a pick. True Bassists use their fingers. No offense to Ganja, his was actually some amusing playing.

Used to play the clarinet in school, now I don't. I wasn't very good anyway.
BTW, I've heard in the U.S. the clarinet is apparently considered a girl's instrument. Is this true? 'Coz over here there isn't really a girl's/boy's instrument "thing". School musicians also don't have the same "band geek" stigma that American movies suggest you do over there.

Usually when I finger-pick its because I play the bass like an acoustic guitar, but if I'm down-tuning I use a pick. I also use a violin bow, a screwdriver and a brush, does that make me an impure bassist?

A screwdriver? That actually sounds pretty awesome.
Unless it's not the screwdriver I'm thinking of.

Clarinet is definitely considered a girl's instrument here. I don't know why, and to be honest I never cared enough to look at it, but being a male clarinet player was definitely considered "girly" or "gay."

See we don't get that here in the UK, at least not iduring my school days. There are instruments that tend to be played more by a certain gender (flute players for example, seem to be largely female despite the most famous one being male), but if a boy plays the flute nobody considers it "girly" or "gay". And as for the whole geek stigma attached to orchestral instrument playing in the States, over here the bullies, "jocks" (don't really have jocks like American schools do) and other tossers don't give a shit. They'll make fun of you for being fat, thin, tall, short, hairy, hairless, poor, rich, being smart and being stupid, but they won't make fun of you for playing an orchestral instrument.

Clarinet is a girl's instrument, so is the flute. I think the only woodwind that's not considered feminine is the saxophone. Brass tends to be unisex, as does percussion. Also, band geeks are the socially inept losers over here.
