I remember when this guy was up in arms against the sims 2 because of the "full frontal nudity" in the game. Apparently he thought it would be an opportunity for paedophiles to "rehearse their abuse". Who the hell thinks like that anyway? Seriously, this dude needs another hobby. Even worse, the nudity he was complaining about came from modding. ...modding inspired by the fact that even if a person did deactivate the pixelization all they'd see is what they'd see on a Barbie doll: nothing.

One: Who the hell is Jack Thompson? linkThompson was a lawyer most known for his crusade against any sort of violence in video games, blaming several games by name for a number of school shootings and other murders. Thompson was permanently disbarred last year due to gross conduct unbecoming, but it appears that he's not gotten the hint. I still remember most of the Doom cheat codes *and* can lay claim to having purchased & read all four Doom novels (I later sold them all). It's all about being able to tell fantasy from reality. There were novels? How did I miss out on those?! ::drools::

There were novels? How did I miss out on those?! ::drools::[/quote] There were a total of four, and they really weren't all that great. The biggest thing that they did was have it that while on Deimos the protagonist - Flynn "Fly" Taggert - encountered a female Marine named Annie and would spend the rest of the series fighting alongside her. Although she was someone to play off of and did indeed help out, she spent almost as much time being used for romantic tension or out-and-out fanservice as she did actually being useful, including being naked several times, peeing in front of the main character on a few occasions, and admitting to once having sex with her own brother on the basis that said brother was questioning his own sexuality and she was trying to turn him straight. The novelization of Doom 1 did, however, include the bonus levels of the game. They also tried to explain how it was that Fly lost most of his gear between episodes, saying that the warp gates removed any items a person had that weren't a part of their own physical body and so Fly had to go back and scrounge each time; of course, it was also used by the writers to justify why Annie ended up naked so often (Fly also lost everything, but he had sufficient modesty to cover up; Annie was a borderline exhibitionist who would have continued to run around nude each time were it not for Fly).

Banning violent videogames? That's an EXCELLENT idea, because everyone who plays videogames emulates what happens ON those videogames. I remember the first time I played Mario Bros.--for the next few months I kept getting high on shrooms and started stomping turtles. Those were dark days indeed.... ![:'(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cry.png) True... "if video games had any effect on behaviour, then we, the kids who grew up playing pac-man, would spend our time running around in dark rooms eating pills and listening to repetetive electronic music!" (as usual, thanks to whoever originally came up with that one)Now days it'd be shooting oversized zombies while shouting 'pills here' Oh come now, a civilized world doesn't do stuff like that *remembers playing starfox and trying to look up Krystal's skirt*

My dad used to let me listen to rap when I was young. His reasoning? It was probably no worse than what I hear on the playground. I mean, it may be a coincidence, but he was right. I heard "nigger," faggot," and "bastard" before I ever heard a rap or metal act say it. It's true, it was almost like a right of passage at my elementary school to know the cuss words. We'd refer to them in reverence as we named what we knew- funnily enough we referred to them by the X-word system when referencing them

He just keeps going and going, doesn't he?
I learned a lot of profanity from my father and the AOL Kids message boards, for crissakes!
