And so the first race of the new F1 season happened today.
If you went back to January and told Jenson Button that, not only would he have drive, but he'd lead the season opener from a commanding pole position right the way to a commanding win he'd have told you to get off his doorstep and stop taking the piss.
Brawn GP have had a fantastic start. JB has been my favourite driver for ages (sure - I loved seeing Hamilton doing well, but between LH and JB I'd have always rooted for JB) and I've always held that Honda was a shite car and that he's world championship material in the right care.
Race highlights: - Watching JB go into turn 1, lap 1 about 20 metres ahead of anyone else. - Kubica and Vettel's hilarious crash - Fisichella screwing up his pit stop entrance (no mechanics were hurt) - Watching a BMW and a Torro Rosso queuing to overtake a Ferrari.
Malasia next weekend. Can't wait!
Hopefully this season he can prove me right.

I'm guessing this is about cars driving in a circle.

I'm guessing this is about cars driving in a circle. I believe you are thinking about NASCAR. I don't watch F1, but I would much rather watch it that the aforementioned American variety of racing.

Formula 1 doesn't simply go around in circles. Their tracks have left and right turns, both.
Still a track, but not the boring-ass ovals as Yanks are used to.

I think F1 may actually become interesting this year.
The rule changes etc have meant that McLaren and Ferrari no longer start each season with a massive advantage over the rest. Could get fun for once

Baja races are the closest thing to interesting because they are covering a huge area instead of repeating an action 500 times. But even then it's interesting so long as people are getting run over or cars are flipping.
F1 should be Fuck 1 because I'd watch a dozen girls repeating actions 500 times. If sports aren't about fucking, I'm not interested.

I disagree, NASCAR has far more spectacular and frequent crashes. F1, nothing interesting ever happens, the crashes are few, far-between and quite bland.

Automobile racing was, initially, about who made the best, fastest cars. Now its all about sponsorship and who has the most money, whether its F1, NASCAR, IHRA or whatever. Some of the "rally" style races remain, but get little publicity, sponsorship or huge scads of money and television coverage. I don't watch NASCAR because the primary coverage is on FOX, honestly. I make an exception for the TV series "House", one of the few intelligent TV series out there. It never ceases to amaze me that a TV series with an avowed atheist as the lead character even made it on the air on FOX. Money talks, I guess.

F 1 is pretty boring. The only thing I liked about the races at Belle Isle was when the Blue Angels used to fly by my skyscraper window. At the same altitude and less than a hundred metres away. Fucking awesome. They'd bank and turn to go up Jefferson . ( okay, so I miss Detroit and my apartment. )

The only real difference is that the cars are shaped funny and the accents are cooler. You've never heard Juan Pablo Montoya (a former F1 driver from Colombia, and also fine as all hell) deliver a very traditional NASCAR-style interview. And Marcos Ambrose's Australian accent is cute, too. Y'all don't know--I facepalmed and said to myself, "Now why didn't I think to start a NASCAR thread?" when I saw this. Of course, I know I'm almost the only NASCAR fan here (*waves to Rookie*), and definitely the hardest-core one. @ Jonathan E: I think Rupert Murdoch will take pretty much anyone's money. Unfortunately, the best coverage of NASCAR is on Fox. But NBC and ESPN will cover it later in the year. @ Sgt Snoodles: Totally right! I love a good crash, at least once I see the drivers all walk away. @ arkady: Sorry about continuing the derail!

What a great race! I need to book a trip to Sao Paolo for the season ender.
One of the drivers I really liked at the beginning of his carrier and who I thought would be a fantastic drivers, has turned out to be quite a bit of an asshole really. Who? Robert Kubica. Everything I see and hear from him these days are just crap. This weekend, he had no need to close the door on Vettel, he had a faster car and several laps left, he would have passed Vettel on the entry to the next turn complex, but no, the idiot had to close out Vettel (and himself in the process and it's not the first time he does stupid things like this). When you listen to him in interviews he is just a dumb arrogant bitch. There is just something about his persona that rubs tme the wrong way and that is sad because I was initially a huge fan of him but have lost all sympathy for him. I don't think he will get any better cars to drive, if any at all.
The one driver who made a really positive impression, was Sebastien Buemi, rookie and had a great race. Not to mention Jarno Trulli who started from the pits and ended up in third before relegated due to some passing issue under safety car. His driving during the race was perfect. I think Jarno will have a great season.
Both Ferrari and McLaren disappointed, maybe even more than I had expected based on their pre-race performance.
Oh, and any F1 fans, don't forget the F1 Debrief show on Speed this Friday and I'm looking forward to little or no sleep this weekend as they move on to Sapang in Indonesia. Can't wait for the weekend to roll around!

It is actually quite good to see everything get mixed up this year, although I get the feeling normality might ensue by the halfway point, which'll only be exacerbated if Hamilton gets lucky podiums. But who knows.
