There is an IRC chatroom. AustNet.org, channel #fstdt, no password. Feel free to join in at any time if you know how.

Although, having your nick registered is a goodness. It gives you extra kudos, like playing with the 8ball.
^-^ Fun times!
EDIT: why does it like to chop my face in half? that's just rude..

Ah, if only Xchat hadn't annihilated itself a while back... It might be faster than sitting here refreshing the "10 most recent posts" area every couple of minutes. Alas, coz I do love me some IRC...

Xchat? What is an Xchat? Is that like iChat except for a different OS?

XChat is a multi-platform IRC chat program. Specifically it works on Linux and Windows. No clue if there's plans for a Mac version, or if either version runs on a Mac without emulation, but then I don't have a Mac so haven't looked into that at all. From my experiences it works quite well, and is what I currently use to connect.

For those who don't have an IRC client on their computers, I have found a way to get around that. Go here: url=http://www.mibbit.com/chat/, click on "server," where it says "Server address" enter in "us.austnet.org," at the box labeled "Nick:" put in what you want to use as a screen-name, and for "Channel(s)" put in "#fstdt," then click "Go." You might have to click over onto the tabs up there to bring the room forward.

I suspect one could also install XChat from source on a Mac, since the base of the OS is FreeBSD and also has X11 installed. I spent enough time with Slackware to learn that I hate installing programs from source. I took the easy way out and found an IRC client native to Macs, Snak.

Ok... two questions... first, why is my mode +m in the IRC when just a few hours ago I got an automatic +v once I identified my registered nickname? Second, why is the IRC topic set to "fuck off and die"? What exactly happened while I was gone?
