Anyway, I don't think there's anything against this. But it really bugs me. I guess it feels like he's 'cheating' to get 'first post' or something. And I'm not sure anything even can be done... But I also felt the mods should know? ...well, and Oriet told me to mention it here. We've twapped a few people for this already, I leave the comments open for people stating it's a repost, or poe, or something which should cause the quote to be dropped. But I've only seen it used that way a handful of times, so I'm looking at some other solutions suggested by some folks.

Oooh... That's a good use for leaving the comments open... but, yeah. I didn't realize that's why it was open in voting. Um, maybe check-boxes or something? "X many people say this quote is a repost/poe/whatever" and then check if you agree... I dunno. Anyway, okay.

I'll admit, I've used it a few times when something was just so bizarre or just fucking wrong, that I *had* to say something. (I never once considered using it for all that "FIRST!" crap -- 'cuz it's immature and clutters things up.)

www.fstdt.net/QuoteComment.aspx?QID=60976The 6th comment is trolling/baiting. This is not the first time this troll has been here. Search his user name to view his past comments, if you don't believe me. I'm pretty sure he has used more than one name too. It's been investigated, and evil mod action has been taken. Now he's a racist cowboy who's into showtunes! Always remember, at his basest level, Distind really is a total prick. And he will take remarkably childish vengence on you for annoying him. I love you Distind!

We now have the power to deal with mainpage comments. Use this thread to report spam, flaming, trolling, baiting, and other such undesirable actions exercised in quote comments. Please note the aforementioned offenses do not apply to comments that actually fulfill the purpose of commenting on FSTDT quotes. I'll trust you to use good judgment on what does and does not qualify as I really do not want to have to define something that people have thus far been able to accurately pinpoint for themselves. Does that include violent comments such as "Die In A Fire" and calling names? I've mentioned this in the past, it is important that comments be objective and reasonable because it will show that fstdt is not extremist, is not emotional , and will by contrast show by example what a fundie is.

Sometimes I feel like reaching through the computer and beating the person who said the quote, but since I can't do that, I just post something early >.<

If you want objective and reasonable, you're in the wrong place.

Just please don't. I understand that it can be really tempting, but here's something you can do instead: write it down in notepad or something, and copypasta it into the comments when the quote breaks the mainpage barrier. Thanks. Oh, and Death? No, I will not be kicking everyone and his brother who says "DIAF". If you think someone is being an unforgivable cod in the comments section in a way that isn't punishable by mod, submit them to pubad. If the quote proves to be genuinely fundie in its asshattery, it may well make it to the mainpage. You want objectivity? What could possibly be more objective than treating FSTDT fundies exactly the same as fundies from other sites? This isn't a debate hall, nor will anyone be expected to pass a literacy exam before posting. If people want to act like fleshy humans, they're perfectly allowed to do so. The purpose of this thread is to put an end to abuses of the openness of comment posting, not abuses of the English language, though some of the latter can occasionally qualify as examples of the former. That, however, is hair-splitting, which is something I will not indulge right now.

Replying to childish behaviour on the part of fundies with like childnesses is not objectivity. It is childish and achieves nothing than adding to the oversupply of stupidity and thoughtlessness that already infests the world. How about using some maturity and thinking about the message you want to get across.

This place used to be all about intelligent discussion on a level above that found at Dawkins' cliche ridden site. It used to have MATURE AND EDUCATED OPINION, not just the whinings of kids who think they're misunderstood, are oh so rebellious and think they fucking know everything.

I offer mature and educated opinion when I encounter mature and educated opinion. I seldom waste it on fundies. If they're sensitive to snark, let 'em shut up. Otherwise, fork 'em.

It used to have MATURE AND EDUCATED OPINION, not just the whinings of kids who think they're misunderstood, are oh so rebellious and think they fucking know everything. I must have missed that. It'd be nice, but by my guesses(and I could measure this, but I don't want to) DIAF has always outranked legitimate opinions on something over all. Some more reasoned quotes which are on the surface a good argument generally get treated to being torn apart logically, but one 'religious wacko blanks child' and the DIAFs would immediately over run the count of reasoned responses. I offer mature and educated opinion when I encounter mature and educated opinion. I seldom waste it on fundies. If they're sensitive to snark, let 'em shut up. Otherwise, fork 'em. This generally seems to be the sentiment shown in the patterns I've seen. If it at least appears, or poses as, mature and/or educated, it receives a far better treatment. Saying gays spread disease because god hates them doesn't get as nice posts.
