I've noticed this, and I have only one response. Just please don't. I understand that it can be really tempting, but here's something you can do instead: write it down in notepad or something, and copypasta it into the comments when the quote breaks the mainpage barrier. Thanks. Oh, and Death? No, I will not be kicking everyone and his brother who says "DIAF". If you think someone is being an unforgivable cod in the comments section in a way that isn't punishable by mod, submit them to pubad. If the quote proves to be genuinely fundie in its asshattery, it may well make it to the mainpage. You want objectivity? What could possibly be more objective than treating FSTDT fundies exactly the same as fundies from other sites? This isn't a debate hall, nor will anyone be expected to pass a literacy exam before posting. If people want to act like fleshy humans, they're perfectly allowed to do so. The purpose of this thread is to put an end to abuses of the openness of comment posting, not abuses of the English language, though some of the latter can occasionally qualify as examples of the former. That, however, is hair-splitting, which is something I will not indulge right now. In answer to the bolded part. Replying to childish behaviour on the part of fundies with like childnesses is not objectivity. It is childish and achieves nothing than adding to the oversupply of stupidity and thoughtlessness that already infests the world. How about using some maturity and thinking about the message you want to get across. I could be a real dick here, but hell, tact is free. There are times where thoughtful analysis and rebuttal are entirely pointless. If someone claims the sky is green and not blue, there's nothing to be gained by breaking it down into what causes the sky to actually be blue. You simply leave it be or call them an idiot and move on. Is DIAF out of line? Hell yes. What about "Go fuck yourself, you hateful piece of shit."? Well, if someone is being a bigot, it isn't out of line. Would you try to articulately argue against a racist asshole? Or just call them what they are? An ignorant, arrogant, elitist prick. Attempting to take the moral high ground for the sake of having the moral high ground is passive-aggressive. Unless you're proposing being passive-aggressive is the adult, mature thing to do? Thumper's mom was full of shit. There are things which you simply tell someone off over, rather than expending the energy to correct them. People with their heads on straight can tell a nutter on site. The people who would have a hard time telling who the asshole is between a racist and the guy who called him an asshole is simply going to get confused over the big words that get used to rebut the racist. And, of course, there are times where someone else has already very nicely ripped apart an idea or post in a manner that would be allowed in a judged debate. Should people just stop replying after that?

@ntc -- Passive-aggressive behavior is probably the most immature thing ever. Besides, it's manipulative and deceptive, neither of which are things we should aspire to, here.
Honesty FTW.

Better to be an honest asshole than a polite backstabber (I believe they're called CEO's and politicians).

I offer mature and educated opinion when I encounter mature and educated opinion. I seldom waste it on fundies. If they're sensitive to snark, let 'em shut up. Otherwise, fork 'em. That's fine in real life, but here we are also talking to an audience.

And you think you don't have an audience when you talk in real life? Just because you're not talking to someone directly doesn't mean they aren't paying attention to you. The only difference between talking on the internet and talking to a stranger in the street is that people are more likely to ignore you in real life than they are in a chat room.
Not sure why that works that way, but there you go.

Should people just stop replying after that? Agreed. Anything being submitted to the main page is not a well-reasoned argument worthy of intelligent response. The quotes there are there to be laughed at, which is all the response they deserve.

I'd also argue that while well reasoned responses are nice (I do them occasionally myself), very often, they will not be read by the person you are responding to. How often do you think people from RR go to the main page to see what we have to say about their posts? If they wanted reasoned discussion, they'd open up their forums to everyone. The main page is really, in my opinion, a way to point out that there are nasty, bigoted people out there who are trying to influence others, and to treat them with the scorn they deserve.

The link isn't working, but I'm pretty sure that I submitted the one you're taking about. It's racism that is influenced by religious fundamentalism, so I felt that it could go either way. I don't remember what was in the quote, but I do indeed remember thinking that it could go either way.

I try very hard to save the "you should die" type comments for the most extreme of hateful fundies, holocaust apologists, rape apologists, people that advocate mass murder of people who disagree with them, people who take delight in mothers dying from back-alley abortions, etc.
And I do try to include at least a short reasonable response in each comment I make, it's just that so often the quotes are so utterly stupid and ridiculous I literally can't think of anything rational and reasoned to say in response. All you can do in those cases is make fun of them.
And sometimes they are just such utter word salad that I can't decipher what the heck they were trying to say in the first place.
Plus, most of these fundies are never going to see the comments, so I'm not *really* talking to the fundies, I'm just trying to be amusing and creative, while possibly being accidentally educational to somebody else that might come along. As well as blowing off steam.

An admitted troll is spamming one of the quote pages. He calls himself Christian Troll and the damage starts one page one and continues to page three (as of the time I've typed this): fstdt.net/QuoteComment.aspx?QID=64555&Page=1
