Got some DDO points for Christmas, sooo...I got the Necropolis bundle, Vaults of the Artificers, and the Favored Soul class. In recognition of that, I decided to fire up a little, human healer girl. Love the class so far...and, did the first bit of Necropolis with 'er today. At level 4. On elite. With 3 humans and 2 bots. Only died twice, first was getting hit by a stray lightning bolt, and the second was after a long, desperate, lonesome fight (everyone else was dead) against a boss wraith, and two others. Got the boss down ta half health 'fore he got me!
Aah. Such fun.

You know, GOG has Evil Genius too, same price but without Steamworks or any other DRM. You guys are nuts buying it on Steam. Actually, it's more expensive on GOG (50% off on GOG vs 75% off on Steam).

Steam DRM is unobtrusive. It's how to do DRM right. I wouldn't call it unobtrusive. I'll grant that its better than most forms of DRM but its still a major pain in the ass if you don't have a constant and reliable internet connection (offline mode only seems to work when it feels like it, even though my computer's credentials are saved). You know, GOG has Evil Genius too, same price but without Steamworks or any other DRM. You guys are nuts buying it on Steam. Actually, it's more expensive on GOG (50% off on GOG vs 75% off on Steam). That'll change once the Christmas sales on both sites ends. Not to mention its a difference of a couple of dollars. I'd gladly pay triple that difference if it meant my game wouldn't be subject to Steamworks (I know not everyone sees it that way, but it needs to be mentioned all the same. For science).

My internet connection is neither reliable nor constant (it'll sometimes go out completely), and I honestly don't have any problems with Steam.

Mine only goes into offline mode if I remember to switch it to offline mode when it was last online. Not to mention some games (like Portal) will only start online.

You know, I figure I may as well try DDO. I've never actually given it a shot, but with it free and all...
Anyone have any suggestions for worlds/realms/servers for me to play on? I won't have anything but the freebie stuff if it makes a difference...

Sure. Though I just found out Half-elves aren't available for free, which kills my aspirations of playing a member of House Lyrandar. ;.;

Got NHL 11 with a gift card my wife got me. Fun so far, but the hitting doesn't seem to powerful. I mean I used to be able to put people through walls, but now they just stumble. Guess I need a lot more practice.

Yeah, i actually like Steam. You can play things in offline mode, plus you never need to worry about losing discs and can install on any comp you want. i think if other developers learned from Steam about how to handle DRM without making dicks of themselves, people wouldn't be so pissed about it.

I don't know, I like the way Sierra used to handle copy-protection: Make one of the plot-required puzzles solvable only if you have the manual. After all, who pirates the manual?

Yeah, but they only used to do that to save programming all the "journal" information into the game. Plus, you know, you lose the manual and you now have a dead game.
