Yup. I know that Ultima VII (both parts) had puzzles just like that, that required either the cloth map that came with the game, or the manual. Thankfully, the compilation CD I got (Akalabeth to Pagan) had text files in each game's folder with all the pertinent information in a nice, in-game book style.

Leisure Suit Larry also had stuff that required the manual. Of course, people just posted the manual online.

You know, GOG has Evil Genius too, same price but without Steamworks or any other DRM. You guys are nuts buying it on Steam. Steam DRM is unobtrusive. It's how to do DRM right. Indeed. I've yet to have any issues with Steam.

So it turns out I'd nearly finished my most recent Evil Genius campaign. So I just finished it off. My chosen Doomsday Device was the Earthquake Ray. The only slight downer to my flawless fucking victory was John FUCKING Steele.
If you can keep him in a holding cell until you launch the Doomsday Device rocket you kill him off once and for all. Bastard only broke out of his cell and blew up my entire detention area with 30 seconds left before launch. And I couldn't very well buy a new holding cell as my island was swarming with the forces of justice in their FUTILE attempt to prevent me from taking the world.
But anyway. As I managed to knock him out before launch it seems almost certain an enterprising minion tossed him off the gantry and into the launch silo as the engines ignited.
NYAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Quest for Glory 1's copy protection: I honestly have no idea, considering that I don't remember anything in the game requiring anything from the manual or the feelies.
Quest for Glory 2's copy protection: The very streets of Shapeir are a confusing maze, and you have to navigate them in order to get the money you need to buy a map. The game comes with a REAL map of the city, though the in-game map is magical and allows you to teleport all over the city. Or you can cheat by leaving town, fighting brigands for native currency, and then buying the map that way.
Quest for Glory 3's copy protection: There is none.
Quest for Glory 4's copy protection: Alchemical formulas involving the elements of fire, water, earth, air, and pizza. One of the plot-required items requires you to solve one. No, they are not in any way intuitive.
Huh...

Yes, it is. But at least it gets you to the moneychanger just fine, and that's all that matters. Me? Well, I memorized the names of the roads that lead to the moneychanger. Unfortunately, I forget the actual names for them, but taking Fountain Street north (it's to the west of the fountain plaza) until you reach Dinar Street, and then follow Dinar Street until you get to the money changer. I love how the remake has a hidden option for English translations for the street names.

It fucks you over horribly if you didn't transfer a file from the first Quest for Glory though. Then again with all the grinding you'd have to do and the time limit, you'd be very hard pressed to beat it with a new character in the first place.

So, I'm reading through the backstory of Assassin's Creed. Apparently, Supreme Court Justices Roberts and Scalia are both Templars. During the 2000 election, Bush was backed by the Templars, while Gore was backed by the Assassins. Scalia convinced O'Conner to rule in favor of Bush in Bush v. Gore in order to set Bush up as a puppet for the Templars. After O'Conner retired, Scalia passes Roberts' name to Bush, setting another Templar on the Supreme Court. Under Templar influence, The Supreme Court ruled against limits on campaign financing in Citizins United v. Federal Election Commision in order to allow Abstergo Industries to ensure the election of their preferred candidates. All of this is actually in the game itself. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, to be precise. assassinscreed.wikia.com/wiki/Rifts#Cluster_7I find all of this very amusing.

I don't know, I like the way Sierra used to handle copy-protection: Make one of the plot-required puzzles solvable only if you have the manual. After all, who pirates the manual? There's a site where you can download just about any manual in PDF format.

Just won HL2 Episode 2 in the Steam Gift Pile. Since I already have it, who wants it?
