Wow, 71% approve of divorce? Isn't divorce supposed to be completely immoral according to the church? But then again, it's good that people are thinking for themselves.

I think (civil) divorce is becoming more acceptable to catholics as the society is becoming more and more egalitarian.
I think it was Gilmore that said religion must adapt or die. This is a good start.

Ah, the Catholics have granted "anullments" at the drop of a hat so folks could remarry, even after many years in the marriage. My sister got one.

Huh, it's definitely an interesting result. Unfortunately, there aren't any details about where the people were polled--that certainly makes a difference--and what kinds of Catholics they polled. As with any religion, there are people who just call themselves Catholic/Jewish/Christian/whatever but don't actually follow any of the doctrine or go to services or anything, and that would obviously influence the outcome of any poll like this.

Like Cait said, this depends on which catholics were polled, if you're looking at European catholics then it isn't too much of a suprise, I don't really know about other major catholic areas though.

While the Vatican is ass backwards they do keep catholics away from the complete fucking insanity independant churches can descend into. I also expect those completely fucking insane churchgoers to use this poll as more proof catholics are evil.

@wackadoodle
Quite correct... until the time they need numbers on their side then Catholics are "Good Christians"

In my experience, among all religious people, Catholics are the bet I've seen at compartmentalizing their religion.

Do most Catholics not recognize Evolution and the Big Bang Theory as being valid? In the Catholic High School i went to (Jesuite), they interpreted stories like Genesis and Adam & Eve as being symbolic rather than literal.

It is the official position of the Catholic Church that evolution is true. They even reject Intelligent Design. The lay Catholics I know all think evolution is just fine. Personally, I'd rather they were creationist rather than anti-condom. Creationism makes people ignorant, banning condoms makes them dead. Ignorance can be fixed, dead is dead.
