This has been more-or-less my philosophy, but what do I know?

Well I talked to her awhile ago...
She basically said that she wasn't really looking for a relationship at that moment and if I really wanted to we could be FWB instead...
Now it's even more awkward.

Good on you for talking to her. I'm not sure I'd ever really be happy doing the friends with benefits thing, fun though sex is. Doesn't strike me as a consolation prize so much as a defeat.
Give it some time and things will even back out.

If the one and only thing seperating you from friends and an actual relationship is fucking... not a recipe for success.

There's a little bit more of a commitment, but it doesn't strike me as a bad starting point. It is necessary, but not sufficient. In my experience, attraction is not purely sexual. I can befriend people I'm not mentally attracted to, but I can't be in a romantic relationship with them. I can also have sex with a person I'm only physically attracted to. Yes, it's shallow, and I haven't done it in years, but I can. I haven't been able to be friends with them afterwards, though. Sex is still an awkward subject and sleeping with someone will change my relationship to that person. I understand people are different, but that I could never make that FWB-thing work.

I could never do the whole FWB thing, but that's completely up to you. It depends on the person, but I imagine it'd be harder to stay friends with her if you did that.

I find the best relationship are those who are like a close friendship, and I've had many good friendships with a decent amount of sexual tension. I just don't like the idea of complicating a relationship with all these precursors of "You have to totally infatuated with each other" or "You want to spend each day in their arms" kinda thing.

I just don't like the idea of complicating a relationship with all these precursors of "You have to totally infatuated with each other" or "You want to spend each day in their arms" kinda thing. That doesn't mean the two are mutually exclusive though. Me and my girlfriend started off as close friends because we have a lot in common (gamers, similar taste in music, etc.) and have stayed that way, but are also a little bit of the "cuddling" type too. It's fine IMO if you have a healthy balance of the two. Some people though DO go overboard with it. My brother's last ex is a perfect example. If he didn't call her every, single, night (even when we were on vacation mind you) then he was in trouble. Well I talked to her awhile ago... She basically said that she wasn't really looking for a relationship at that moment and if I really wanted to we could be FWB instead... Now it's even more awkward. I always pictured it being kind of hard to stay just friends in that situation. Anywho, syaoranvee, don't get depressed over it. Like others have said, things will smooth back out eventually. I have a friend who I used to have a thing for and got rejected years ago and we're still good friends to this day.
