Well... not exactly. In fact... rather not, I guess. But hey, I got your attention, didn't I? Anyway, I was wandering around the labyrinth of the internet today, and came across this. Personally, I love the Eternal Embrace... so romantic! But anyway, thought ya all might like to see.

Yeah, the ancient Egyptians weren't hung up on sex.

I'm guessing they were gay. The paintings show them in an embrace that's very similar to the ones husbands and wives are shown in. And considering the amount of male homosexuality in Egyptian myths, I doubt it was taboo.

Damn, you had me thinking there was going to be yaoi. But I do remember that my AP World teacher last year had a book about the ancient Egyptians, and it stated that they did not consider homosexuality taboo. I can't remember exactly what it said (I was usually half asleep in that class and I didn't read the whole book like my friend did), but from what I got from it, it was practiced fairly commonly.

It could have been yaoi though. A lot of Ancient Egyptian porn has been uncovered, though I don't know of any specific examples of gay porn.

This is awesome.
Am I the only one tickled pink by the fact one of them was the chief manicurist to the Pharoah? That's like 'gaydar' set at eleven.

Is it bad that I thought of Yu-Gi-Oh The Abridged Series when I saw the thread title?

Very.....I should beat you for putting that thought into my head.
But yeah, old school cultures didn't have much of a hang-up on sex as we do in this day and age. Blame the whole christian thing with it's sex taboos and everything.
Ironbite-the US attitude towards sex is appalling with its major Puritian influences.

I don't think we know enough about ancient cultures to say that; I think the homosexual instances could be from a very specific context. Gilgamesh was partly about complimentary spirits and how to rule. Etc. So, it could just be a device.
Now, show me to this Egyptian gay myth =D

Very.....I should beat you for putting that thought into my head. Well, the series tells us that the ancient Egyptians had gaydar. Stands to reason they had something to detect with it. ;D

Imagine archaeologists a thousand years hence, after all records of our time have been destroyed, coming upon a listing of male Broadway actors and their significant others. Conclusion? "Homosexuality was no big deal in THIS ancient culture!"
