i see it's on your to-do list, and i know i'm new here, but i am fascinated by the amount of errors i encountered just trying to make a profile here. have you ever considered a change over from proboards to phpbb to run on your own domain? it's rumored that there is a way to convert (it's been done) all proboard to phpbb3, but i don't think proboard likes that idea so whenever they see the script it is taken off the phpbb support boards theoretically, in maybe a month or two of intense work, you can have a phpbb board that is running on your own server, not take up much space, and that you'll be able to fix all the bugs in yourself (or someone with a working knowledge of php). also, since phpbb is open source, there's no limit to what you can do to tailor the boards to your particular style. if the worst comes to worst, the script can't be built and you'd have to start a brand new board, but at least there won't be so many errors that can't be helped. ------ waits for booing (and you can write a simple script to automatically lock topics that have been dead for 30 days unless they are pinned "

Auto-lock isn't exactly great, considering there are cases of people actually contributing a real update.

I don't care where this place ends up, as long as it's not Aceboards.

I'd rather have a self-hosted board like the old one so we can post naughty stuff.
Did I just say that out loud?

We were all thinking it.
Just not Aceboards.
Never Aceboards.

Long snarky comments cut short, no not really. I don't have the time to do the updates to the site I've wanted to, new forums are way back on the back burner.

i was interested to know, in a site that has so much on the boards, are you the sole administrator that has access to the back-end? i'm sorry, as you can see, i'm new here. on other sites, i see that usually someone has a programmer to update stuff like that.
this is really just a professional curiosity, seeing as your site is kinda famous, and i've found a lot of cultural references to the place. seems like a lot of work for just one person to do.
no i'm not being facetious, i just was interested to know

Distind is the only one with full admin access. As far as the fstdt.net/com site goes, he's essentially rebuilding it from scratch. The previous owner of the site was somewhat sloppy with coding and basically stopped giving a fuck and wandered off. Tracking her down was mildly annoying...

I've given it a try a few times only to find some major problem that brings it to a screaming halt, when push comes to shove the only problem we've really had with pro-boards is the odd outage, at least that I've heard of. My focus is on the site, and as Nap may be willing to comment on some of it has been a pain in itself. I have some things I'm still trying to roll out in the next few weeks and my personal life really isn't helping progress. But for a bit of history on the site the FAQ has about as much detail as you can get: www.fstdt.com/FAQ.aspxWork on this place though, it's fairly self sustaining now after some major overhauls the last year or so. Mostly amounts to pruning an internet banzi tree every morning for the main page admin. The forum moderators team does a good job of keeping things in order on the boards, so I make headway on the development end of things when I have the time. Though you did remind me I need a few labrats for the new release, so thank you.

Speaking of lab rats, I'm willing to volunteer too, if you'd like.

yeah, i was a programmer for another web community which i left. i know exactly how hard it is to have one little thing prevent you from doing exactly what you want, or it comes out wrong, or you get the user complaints that stuff isn't the way it's supposed to be.
real life does kick in first though, and in my real life i do pretty much the same thing, but for a job. my issue was that other programmers would add on stuff without telling me, and the addons were poorly scripted and they would fuck up the site like hell.

Half the reason the site updates take me as long as they do is that I try to make damn sure they work right off the bat, and I still fuck up. It drives me nuts to come across code that someone added without documentation and have no clue what it's supposed to do.
