The problem is that I feel a little guilty taking it as an atheist. I wouldn't actually be teaching doctrine or anything, or even involved in the sermon--I'd be caring for children too young to talk. And I do need the money. Of course, I'd have to watch my tongue when religion comes up.
What do you guys think?
(Oh, and I wasn't sure where to put this, so as always, mods, if it's wrong feel free to move it.)

I think, if you need the money and this is a job, then you should take it and watch your tongue.
You're caring for the children of people who are going to bring them to church anyways. You aren't teaching them that they must hate mooslims, or give all their money to a snake oil salesman, or anything like that.

It's fine for an atheist to babysit christians' children. The job is exactly the same regardless of religion, and if anything you'll show some christians that atheists can be as kind and competent and trustworthy as the other guy.

I'm sorry, how the hell am I supposed to tell you what is moral for you? I mean, I could say that just asking like you're doing makes me suspect that the idea makes you very uncomfortable. Is that discomfort worth it?

Well money always trumps discomfort. Go for it

I'd do it. When you need money, you need money.

Why would the subject of religion come up? "Here's your little rug rat, Mrs. Perkins. I think his pants are full. See you next week."

What exactly bothers you?
Is it dishonesty, if they assume you are a Christian? Is it tacitly endorsing religion? Is it the potential awkwardness?
Ultimately, you need to find if whatever you don't like about the job beats beats your need of money. That's strictly personal.

Think of it this way: they've offered you a job while obviously knowing that you aren't part of the congregation, so they don't seem to mind hiring someone outside of their exact views on religion. So if they aren't uncomfortable with the situation, why worry about it yourself? Take the job, look after the kids, and don't overthink it.

I'm an atheist, I've done substitute teaching at Catholic schools, Muslim schools and even an Exclusive Brethren school. Doesn't conflict with my ethics one bit, I've always thought that I was there to teach the kids to read and write and also to look after their safety and well being. Religion rarely ever came up, when it did I'd simply not discuss it. Telling people that your views on religion are your private business is hardly unprofessional.
