MS paint drawings on pictures... Is this guy the Perez Hilton of homophobes? He's the freaking 4-chan of homophobes. Fixed. You don't have to use words like "homophobic" or "racist" or "misogynist" or "delusional" when discussing 4chan. Just saying their name will suffice

Basically, this guy, Andrew Shirvell, has taken offense to Chris Anderson, the first openly gay student council president of the University of Michigan. He started a blog, which he has closed due to the outcry on CNN, that had personal attacks on Chris, up to and including photoshopping a gay pride flag with a swastika on it and making an arrow pointing at Chris. He has called him "elitist" and "racist." He has accused Chris of hosting gay orgies in his dorm room, going to a party where alcohol was served (at the time, Chris was out of town), and having sex with "men who do not identify as gay". He has stalked him on his Facebook page and he and his buddies have left threatening and offensive messages on his Wall, the Walls of his friends, and those of his friends' families. He has also picketed Chris's house. Basically, he is a severely screwed up individual. Shirvell also gave an interview with CNN, during which Anderson Cooper called him out on all of his bullshit. The psycho actually tried to claim that it was "nothing personal against Chris", and made up some lame excuse about political tactics.

The best part is that when Anderson Cooper asked him what kinds of "radical gay agenda" items the kid had been pushing, Shirvell replied "gender-neutral housing".
Men and women living together. That's so gay.

Why are people every now and then calling this free speech issues? Harrassment and libel aren't free speech, don't you 'murkans have laws against those too? We do, and didn't end up being less free, if you're afraid of slippery slopes.

He accused him of going to a party with alcohol (because he stalked his Facebook page and saw that he had said he was going to attend). Since this guy is an undergrad, that's illegal. Since he was out of town, it's also untrue. So he technically could get called on libel.

Even if he didn't, Cooper pointed out in the interview that Shirvell seems to be guilty of cyber-stalking, according to Michigan law. At first Shirvell tried to claim that the cyber-stalking law was made up by a liberally biased newspaper reporter who interviewed him and Cooper got his information from there, but Cooper said he'd never heard of this other guy who interviewed him, and said that he got the information from a pamphlet on cyber crimes that the state of Michigan gives out. Shirvell then tried to claim that he's not guilty of cyber-stalking because... he's never met Armstrong in person? For an assistant AG, this guy sure doesn't know much about the law.

Not to mention that one of the tenants of being a lawyer is to be the best possible lawyer for your client, regardless of who they are or what they did. What happens to this guy's gay clients?

It seems that there is now an article on ED about this. Hoo, the lulz.

That was one of the most feeble "defenses" I've ever heard. And what the hell is it that he sees while staring upward?

I think I know what the issue is.
He's rabidly jealous. He wants to be like the guy who can be so openly gay. He wants to be free. But he can't. And if he can't be free, no one else should be free.

And what the hell is it that he sees while staring upward? His conscience? Clearly he's detached from it. Perhaps it is escaping like a bilge rat from a radioactive cesspool.

UPDATE: Mr. Shirvell has been fired from his job. And there are plans to have him disbarred! Read the full horror here.
