I'm not sure if this is the right place for this but whatever. My friend wants to get a drum set for cheap and asked me for help. This is a problem, cause I don't know jack about dick about anything about drumsets. All of my focus has been on Vocals and Bass and nothing else. Neglegence on my part, but yeah. Can anyone help? He just needs cheap drumming equipment, the style of music that he would like to play is (as much as I hate the term ) Post-Hardcore.

As long as it has a crash, ride, working hat, bass drum, snare and at least one tom (if no other tom, then make sure its the floor), I'd be happy. Make sure there's no "ringing" sound, no cracks in the drums, etc. You should be able to get a new set for under $1000.

I should mention, the drum set is highly, highly customizable, and it really is up to personal tastes when it comes to exactly what the set up is. For post-hardcore, my recommendation is a 18-inch crash and a 20-inch (standard) ride, everything else standard. If you have money left over, get a 16-inch crash or a hanging tom.
Otherwise, they do sell full sets, which should be cheaper overall. They usually come with a bass, hat, snare, floor tom, 2 hanging toms, ride and 1 or 2 crashes. That should suffice most drummers. To get some really heavy Metallica-ish sounds though, get him an extra set of drumstick-sized mallets with small-ish tips. Seriously, the sounds you get out of those are IMMENSE.

www.musiciansfriend.comI know next to nothing about drums too, but that site has some cheap stuff that's halfway decent.
