So, I am currently learning Japanese, and while I am still at a very basic level, I would like to have something to practice my comprehension with once I get more advanced. Must: - Be Japanese (should be an obvious one)
- Have casual dialogue, but still grammatically correct
- Not be mind-fuck crazy
Preferences: - Something light, more like a day-to-day-no-crazy-robots kind of thing
- Something interesting
- Something funny
- Something with a brighter art style
I know we have some weaboos on this board, so I would appreciate it if you could help me out.

Planetes is a good one, realistic space anime set in near-future. There's also the manga which is even better (if you need to hone reading, etc).
Manga-wise, I can recommend also Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, not so much mind-fuckery, androids are present, but not crazy in the sense of a lot of mecha stuff you see. Pretty much ordinary, slice of life manga which is a delight to read.
For anime again, an intriguing one would be Haibane Renmei. A delight to watch, interesting art and general concept, plus no mind-fuckery. Just an interesting plot and lots of dialogue and character interaction.
There's always Monster, but that's a depressing crime story. Really good to watch, set in Europe, revolving around a Dr. Tenma, but it does get depressing as the protagonist gets in worse and worse situations. Also, only mind-fuckery is just a very intriguing plot and story progression, nothing like crazy powers or agile giant robots.
All I can really think of at the moment. I read mostly manga nowadays, and a lot of stuff I watch/read ARE the mind-fuckery stuff.

Easy. There's a show called "DearS": It's absolutely hilarious, and I usually don't go for cutesy animes.

It's kinda old, but there is Rurouni Kenshin.
Hellsing is an excellent one. But it's very violent so not light. Come to think of it, I havent watched much anime since Trinity blood went off.

Lucky Star would be a good starting point. It has alot of anime fanboy jokes but still funny to anyone not a fanboy. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is also good. It has some supernatural stuff in it. Its kinda like a day to day thing while crazy stuff happens without the main charcter noticing. (its hard to describe ) There's also Fruits Basket(people turn into animals) and Sister Princess (which is kinda a girly anime) Its kinda hard to recommend anime without going into the ones with the supernatural, monsters or giant robots.

This. Though Lucky Star seems to be very loose in terms of overarching plotline. Haruhi is good, from what I've seen of it. I've heard Ouran High School Host Club is good, too. Never watched it myself. Any of the "greats" of anime would also be good. Cowboy Bepop, Fullmetal Alchemist, Ghost in the Shell (though you'd want to keep notes if you feel like following the plot). Anything from Miyazaki. My recommendations are Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away. In that order.

I second Rurouni Kenshin and Ouran High School Host Club.
Also, if I might add, I love Azumanga Daioh. There's no crazy giant robots. It's a day-to-day storyline, and it's quite funny actually.

Don't know if it meets your criteria, but Hellsing (the original epidodes, not the newer ones - Wiki will help you out there) is so awesome I feel I should convicne to at least give it a try.
New oens might be good too, I just haven't seen them yet.
And yes, Hellsing has sanely sized eyes.

It follows the original manga, unlike the first which went its own way half way through. Plus it has Rip Van Winkle, which would make any anime great

But might just be a case of uber-fans of the original series being twats. It's a common problem. But if it actually is better than damn, that's gonna be an awesome show. I fucking love the first Hellsing series.

I just didn't like the enemy in the first. It was an unknown enemy that is never revield at the end. I did like incognito thow. Plus the art style is a little brighter in the new one which I also like. And they got all the same voice actors. I think its going to be the same with the new Full metal alchemist series. I think the first episode was alot better then any of the first series episodes.

As long as Alucard is the same, characterisation/personality wise, they could make it about a concrete wall that needs to be painted before it starts to rain and it'd still be a good show lol.
Not sure I'd be in favour of a brighter art style for Hellsing though, to me it suits a dark style. Just as long as everything isn't rainbow coloured or bright pink and baby blue I'm sure I can live with it.
