Post by The Lazy One on Apr 12, 2009 6:08:08 GMT -5
There's a very long story involving group work in my English class. The important part is that someone called me "the lazy one", and I thought it was funny, so I kept the name.

Post by Moon Wolfhowl on Apr 12, 2009 6:21:21 GMT -5
I used to just use names of characters I liked from whatever series I was reading/watching at the time for usernames, but then I thought that I should get my own name for myself. I heard the song "Moon Baby" by Godsmack, and thought it was pretty cool, as moon symbolism fits nicely with my personality, and I was big into the werewolf fandom at the time. Then I joined Gaia Online (breifly, I swear!) and someone already had my name, so I just added a "howl" on the end, making it Moon Babyhowl. I had been thinking I needed a last name as well, so I modified the Babyhowl into Wolfhowl. And thus came Moon Wolfhowl. I like it so much now that I'll answer to it in RL if someone calls me by it. (After staring at them agape because I have no idea how they know that name...)It also goes well for an alias to use in my art, and as a "magic name" for heathenry and such.

Mine comes an episode of the Simpsons, back when it was good. Mr Burns has Homer going around doing terribly degrading things to himself in order to make money. One of the things he had Homer do was get in a panda suit and pretend to be a panda bear at a zoo. The panda's name was Simsim. That episode happened to be on as I was struggling to pick a nick when I was signing up for something. Used it since.

I was undecided about what nickname I wanted to choose. No, no pun intended, that's what actually happened.

Post by Vypernight on Apr 12, 2009 7:01:20 GMT -5
Vyper was originally the name of my favorite character in a wrestling card game I played years ago. After that, I kept using it as the name of whatever character I was playing in a video game or RPG. When I got an early internet program, I went with nightvyper, but I decided I liked vypernight better. I just liked the sound of it.

As Self-Proclaimed President of the World, nay the Universe, it would be unwise of me to divulge such obvious information.

I heard the name Jebediah in a book I read years and years ago. I can't remember which book, but it's been my nickname for everything ever since, not just on the internet. My family is always asking me why I have such a weird fascination with the name. I really have no idea why.

My son's name is Dante. I was an English major with a major lit crush on the Divine Comedy. I still like the concept of parenting as being like a Virgil--someone who is supposed to lead Dante through hell as unscarred as possible. So...I'm Dante's Virgil.
I live for the metaphor!!

Schizophonic is an album by Nuno Bettencourt. I love Nuno, despite his participation in the evil hair metal. However, it's not a normal screen name for me. I just was blanking when I signed up for the prior Fundies board. It was that or Squeegee Beckenheim. Hell, Ibby suggested that one since I use it as my MSN display name quite frequently.
Amaranth, however, has been a screen name of mine since high school. I liked the name from Greek Myth, so I ran with it. It's also been part of the "stage name" since about 1999 (I credit myself as "Zachary Amaranth" on any recording I do), and if I can get my dime novels published, it'll be a part of my pen name (Though no longer being so far in the closet that I can see Narnia, I'm going to use something mroe androgynous than "Zachary." Call it the "Rob Thurman" effect)

I'm an amateur astronomer. One type of object I enjoy observing through my telescope are star clusters.
And for fun, with just a minor spelling modification, it still sounds the same but gives it an entirely different meaning.

Or, you read the Prince. Gah! Who told you?!!! Essentially Machiavelli's The Prince was what officially made me dabble with philosophy. It is what pushed me to peer into the minds of many other great thinkers. Locke, Sun-Tzu (although not a philosopher per say), Jefferson, Madison, Nietzsche and a bit of Dostoyevsky Plato and Aristotle. Needless to say, it re-aligned my views on society and governance, making the world a little less confusing.
