What kind of traditions and such do you carry on this time of year?
I like to keep it simple. Some decorations, baking, time with the family and such. We go out to dinner with family every christmas eve. The kids get some gifts but we don't go crazy with it.
New Years is always spent at home with the kids or at our neighbors' house.

We usually have the youngest open one present on the eve (it's usually christmas PJs, but not always). Then the next morning we'll get coffee and stuff then start opening. Stockings first. After that we'll take a break then have breakfast.

We always spend christmas with family, either my grandparents' house in Alabama, or my aunt's in Canada. At the firmer, we have a buffet line and everybody gathers around the tree to exchange gifts. At the latter, we have the traditional Italian seafood feast and my immediate family goes skiing. When our great-aunts and great-uncles up there were still with us, we visited them.

At some point, my sister & I conned our parents into letting us open 1 present on Christmas Eve. That's been a staple ever since. Also, enough cookies to feed a small battallion for a week are made. And, unfortunately for me, we eat ham on Christmas day.

I think this year my girls are getting coal in their stockings. Yesterday my 9 year old and my 11 year old got into a little spat at the front door and decided to shove each other. My 9 year old shoved my 11 year old right through the glass door. Yes she's fine but replacing the glass cost $150.

"Santa" should bring you a padlock and a pair of tube socks. (I do not condone child abuse in any way, the above was just a tasteless joke. Thank you.)
