Basically, what are your favorite creative home-made gifts that you've ever recieved or given? Feel free to include pictures if you want/can. I made this one for my girlfriend for Christmas this year. It's a braclet with music charms that I made out of one of my old guitar strings. She made me for Christmas this plaster statue which she made in her art class at school and painted it herself. My favorite hand-made present I've ever recieced though has to be the birthday present my girlfriend gave me last year. It's a painting she made of a wolf staring forwards.

That painting is gorgeous. My favorite homemade gift is probably the one my friend gave me a few years ago. It was a small scrapbook that included pictures and captions of some of the fun things we had done together during our friendship. I'd go pull it out of my dresser, but I'm saddened by the fact that we don't hang out anymore.

I'll sometimes get creative in the sense of making joke gifts, but that are also of practical use. Sometimes, I'll make the package look like it's obviously something else. My favorite by far was the Sarah Palin book for my mom, who can't stand Sarah Palin. The difficulty: Not actually buying the book, so I wouldn't fund Sarah Palin. I downloaded a picture of the cover off the internet, printed it, and folded it over a real book. It was really convincing, and she nearly flipped her lid until she figured out what I did.
BTW, I love the homemade gifts. Your girlfriend is an awesome artist.

One year, my friend and his wife just had their baby girl. I wrote a poem called, "From Baby," printed it out, framed it, and left it in the baby's room for them to find.
It got the reaction I expected.

I made my mother a copper Celtic torque about 10 years ago. She still wears it.

Can't find a decent picture of it, but for my friend's 25th I bought her a bottle of vodka, busted out some paint, and customised the label. It was a pretty amateurish effort, but she appreciated it. I'll sometimes get creative in the sense of making joke gifts, but that are also of practical use. Sometimes, I'll make the package look like it's obviously something else. On my way home tonight I found an empty iPhone box. Next time a friend has a birthday I'm going to send it with a note inside saying, "Nah, not really."

This yr for x-mas, because there are too many people in my family, I downloaded a bunch of songs and custom made a music mix for each one of them.
In the past I have carved eggshells, crocheted scarves and crammed little stuffed bears carefully through the top of clear glass ornaments.
getting baskets and getting each person a load of little things often works too. It's fun to watch them unwrap each thing individually too.
