It's been 35 years since my first day at university and a lot of spliffs have drifted over the bridge since then. Oh, and the music's got much, much worse... Enjoy it, it goes much too quickly.

My first day at uni I got lost and ended up in the wrong place for the "welcome, n00bs" lecture. Luckily I met this girl who was also in the wrong place...fast forward 7 years and that girl is now my wife. Coincidences eh?

My first day of Uni I had a government class, which was luckily easy to find because it was the same room in which I'd taken both of my SAT tests.
However, I miscalculated the commute to the campus, realized I needed a guest's parking pass because I had no permit, and underestimated the sheer volume of foot traffic on streets on-campus so that by the time I actually found a parking spot by the building I thought I was late for class (which, since I am a 'good student,' I've never been).
It turns out the clock in my car was (and still is) several minutes fast, so I was all worked up for no reason.
And my government professor wore shorts, flip-flops, and Hawaiian shirts ALL semester.

My first day of uni (4 years back), I was terrified and starving because I didn't know where to buy food. That's what I remember the most

Years ago, I was primed for my first day by people who pointed out that 2/3 of us would flunk out. Some schools would be appalled by that statistic, but Rutgers was apparently proud of it. Needless to say, I started out pretty scared; especially since out of 1,500 freshmen, they only graduated 35 math majors! As a math graduate from another college, I can assure you that a low percentage of math majors graduating is not just a Rutgers thing.

Wasn't particularly memorable, to be honest, and alcohol was not involved. First class at 7 am. I do remember my second day a bit more, but only because I turned 18 about halfway through Physics that day.

It seems that most everyone was late to their first class. I was about an hour early

I start this fall. I'm going to Lawrence University (awesome liberal arts school in Wisconsin with a student body of about 1500 for those unfamiliar with it) so I doubt I'll have as much of the "oh fuck I'm late for class/can't find the right room" as you guys did, but I'm sure I'll have some interesting stories nonetheless. I'm a victim of fundie homeschooling so I can't fucking wait to be there and undo the damage my dad has done to my education.

It seems that most everyone was late to their first class. I was about an hour early I just KNOW I'm gonna do this, I get so paranoid about being late I'll probably camp outside the door from the night before.

People had told me stories about being locked out if you were late so I was terrified on my first day of classes and got there way too early. I also hated it at first. I was used to lots of structure and the lack of it made me feel lost. I've now been in school for 8 years and barring issues with this fucking dissertation, I'll be out next year

And it doesn't help that everyone feels the need to stare at the people who come in late.

My first day at University - I pulled a night shift the Sunday night before, got off work at 8AM, hauled ass and made it to my first lecture for 830AM. History. I fell asleep inside of 10 minutes. The prof was a German-accented fellow with a dreadful drone and an incredibly dry wit. He leaned in close (I was in the second row), and said in his deep baritone "I don't mind your falling asleep, but your snoring is keeping ze uzzer students avake!" I got my first "A" from Dr. Sauter, who taught me how to write a scolarly paper that semester. He was a pistol.

If I have learned nothing else from higher education, it's that I am a quiet sleeper.

I was never able to fall asleep in lecture. Even in my 8am History of Rock class where the prof turned off the lights while playing cool jazz for like 20 minutes.
