If it helps at all, I had to watch "The Colbert Report" a few times before figuring out that it was a parody of conservative stances, not a sincere endorsement. Despite the fact that it's on Comedy Central. I feel stupid. I did this too. First time I watched it in late 2006 I had no idea it was a parody and I got so mad at all the liberal-bashing he was doing. But then I looked it up on Wikipedia and found out it was satire. Now I think Colbert's a genius and I'm a huge fan. I was JUST discussing this the other day. I knew of Colbert from Dailyl Show and Strangers With Candy before that. I knew his history and so I was never fooled, but I've often stated (as i did the other day) that there are probably many conservatives that watch it thinking they are watching a liberal-bashing show. I think that is fucking hilarious.

Have you seen what passes for comedy on american television most times? A quarter of the country was intent on voting sarah palin as vp, American Idol has been on for like ten years and people were torn on whether or not OJ really did it. Not the most demanding group... In this country, subtle is some guy getting accidentally hit in the nuts.

I actually started watching TCR and TDS on the same night in December 2006 (I started watching TDS because Tom Waits was on that night, and thought it was hilarious so I've been a fan ever since). And I'd never seen SWC at the time, so I wasn't familiar with Colbert at all until TCR.

I hear ya, I just find it way funnier to think of right wingers watching it thinking they are "ripping on libs" when THEY are the actual punchline. Even if Colbert was a serious conservative there would still be liberals who would watch. I think that if a conservative finds out what the show really is, they are/will be offended. So it's not in the fact that he has fooled people before, including yourself, it's that he fools the very folks he is lampooning into watching his show, and them thinking that they are the ones pointing and laughing. That is a far more complicated "hilarious" than merely tricking someone with a sudden sharp comedic turn or some 'Punk'd' type shit. So I'm not ripping on you for being fooled if that's what you think. Also, I'm saying that SC never got a chance to TRY to fool me because I knew of him prior to his show. Otherwise I would've been scratching my head trying to figure it out too. He's just really good at what he does!

No worries. nothing to be sorry about. I just know that sometimes people think a rant about x is actually about them just because they might've first breached the subject. Gotta head them lemmings off at the pass before they run themselves off a cliff, you know?

But obviously the Westboro Church is very real. It pickets often enough. Yep and I'm proud to say that our government has just banned Fred Phelps and his disgusting daughter from entering the UK. Fuck you, blur, Fuck you for having a more sensible government than us. ;_;

Fuck you, blur, Fuck you for having a more sensible government than us. ;_; Can your government ban a citizen? Most can... It's called not giving them an entry visa on grounds of being an utter douche. Unfortunately most can't ban their own citizens (without sticking a needle in them or something) which is why the U.S. is stuck with the Phelpses...

While I hate the idea of not having freedom of speech, at the same time I wish there was something we could do about fucktards like Phelps and his incestuous family, as well as groups like the KKK and such. There's no easy answer, so for now, we just have to let them be, as long as they are not harming anyone. Fuck them. And I'm so jealous right not of the UK.
