Agreed. That's a great argument that should be easily understood by the people who wonder what the big deal is. Thanks, you two. I now feel kinda bad about my sig, though... Oh you will feel bad about that, mark my words, you will feel bad. *turns to attack elephant* Bessy!, I've got another one for you.

EDIT: ...I post an ad that is trans-friendly and then an ad that objectifies them pops up next to it.

For me the big change in paradigm was when I read a friend's journal about his transition from female to male. It was such a powerful experience and I really learned to respect transgendered people in general. The sharing of personal experiences is often quite extraordinary.
The idea of waking up as a woman terrifies me. I am male. I love being a male. Not having a body to match your mind must be very difficult indeed.

Although I'm really appreciative of how the Japanese-Canadian community was able to pull themselves up after the camps during war time. They had some help, my Uncle-in-law sold his farm to a white friend who sold it back to him after the war. But he was lucky not to be screwed over like a lot of them were.

Shhhhhhh...... we don't let them on to us. Who's going to believe him? It'll be like Pat and Jerry blaming gays, Jews, and women who wear pants for 9-11. Now NOBODY believes we really were behind it.

I'm trans, and have spoken at a couple of TDOR ceremonies at the state capitol steps. I also do a webcomic (sporadically). But for some reason I never thought to do a special comic for the day. It's a fine idea, and the examples I saw in this post were moving. Here is a Southern Voice article about the '06 ceremony, where I got quoted. (edited to add a link to the comic)

That stuff got me all choked up. And believe me, that is hard to do.
I think more people should see things like what is in the first post.
Some, of course, will always find an excuse for their bigotry.
But, I'd like to think that most would take a moment to think when seeing those images.

I don't normally get choked up, but things like this can do it. And it's my sincere hope that you're right; that pictures like those really do make people think.
