Heh, yeah. That's how I was until I came to a decision. It's hard weighing all the variables to figure out which is the best option.

I'm like you, I shop around a lot. I just bought a wifi Kindle and thought I'd share why:
1. e ink over a screen. Mostly for battery life, durability, and reading in the sun. I didn't want browsing or stuff like that, just a reader. Kindle's grey scale is amazing.
2. Price. It's one of the cheapest (at least in Canada), the only closer one is the Kobo. However, Kindle has four gigs over one so better value.
3. Ergonomics. It's a comfortable device to use. Lightweight, nice non-slip rubber back, and the keyboard is way less annoying than it looks. Page turns on both sides accommodate one-handed reading.
3. Versatility. From the Kindle? Well, with a little software. Because it's one of the oldest and most popular, there's a lot of people online writing stuff that doesn't even require jailbreaking. Calibre + plugins let me convert formats and manage collections with my warranty intact.
Hope this helps. I'm really loving the Kindle. I've even put .cbr manga on it easily using Calibre (though I'm in the midst of tweaking a bit).

I'm thinking of getting one and am interested in what readers people are using and their opinions on them. I've narrowed my selection down to three, Kindle, Nook Color, and iPad. Each seem to have their advantages and disadvantages. One disadvantage I real would like to know about is the Nook's battery. I've read that the batter is nonreplaceable. If it dies in the warranty period B&N sends you a new Nook, if it's after the warranty you need to buy a new reader. Anyone know how long a batter typically lasts before it's dead for good? I own a kindle, which I don't use anymore, mainly because I now have my kindle account hooked up to my Droid2. So I end up doing all of my book reading on my phone. I own the original kindle, which isn't that good compared to its competitors visually, but the technology has advanced quite a bit since I acquired it.
