For me, it's about voting on a civil liberty. How does that work? We didn't vote to end segregation. We didn't vote for a woman's right to vote. How are we voting on who can get married? How does that even work? I seem to remember the ADA was never a ballot initiative.
I have heard conservative christian talk show hosts claim that it's not an issue of civil liberties, or that the GLBT community have somehow turned it into a civil liberty. But that's not really the case, it's about protecting the family. And for the life of me, they haven't been able to explain how. Or even how it's not a civil liberty issue. But anyways, yeah, fuck these guys.

Actually, since women's suffrage was ultimately established via Constitutional Amendment, it was addressed via democratic (or, more precisely, republican) methodology. It wasn't fiat of the courts or the executive, that is.
