A rebirth of the conlang thread!
Here's the lowdown on the languages I'm currently working on, in case anyone's interested. And I'd like to know what sorts of languages my fellow FSTDT conlangers are working on, and how they're coming along.
Oltengo a.k.a. Plainsish or Savanine
- spoken by: the leoren (a humanoid feline species of my own invention)
- inspirations: Sindarin (one of Tolkien's elvish languages), Gaelic
- vocabulary: about 600 words
- style: Uninflected, relies heavily on prepositions and to a lesser extent word order to indicate relationships between words in a sentence. Designed to be easy to pronounce and pleasant to hear (at least to my ear). Intended as a day-to-day speaking language.
- development: Basics of grammar are mostly worked out. Nouns can be pluralized, verbs can be conjugated, simple sentences can be constructed. Some aspects of word order still need to be worked out. Currently fleshing out the vocabulary.
- written with: Younger Elvish Script, of my own invention, and descendant of Draconic writing systems
Dwargodhma a.k.a. Draconic
- spoken by: dragons
- inspirations: Latin, Old Norse
- vocabulary: 150+ root words
- style: inflected language, with suffixes and other word changes indicating the relationships between words in a sentence. Designed to sound powerful and authoritative. Many letters make different sounds, or groups of sounds, depending on where they appear in a word, and the gender of that word. Intended as a religious/scholarly language, similar to how Latin was used in the middle ages.
- development: In the early stages of development. Nouns can be inflected and verbs conjugated. Word order will probably be loose.
- written with: Elder Draconic Runes and Younger Draconic Script, of my own invention.
Eldritch
- spoken by: great and terrible cosmic beings of untold aeons
- inspirations: H.P. Lovecraft
- vocabulary: maybe a dozen root words
- style: Inflected language. Designed to be complex and strange in structure, and difficult, if not impossible to pronounce. Intended for driving people mad.
- development: Very early in development.
- written with: Strange hieroglyphics, yet to be created. Will possibly be based on Simon Whitechapel's Lovecraftian alphabet.
Samples to follow (eventually) if anyone cares.
