I did seem to get a sense of dickishness from some folks but I figure it was just critical-ness and tried not to take it too personally. Wasn't easy, I'm hyper-sensitive. But for some reason part of me doesn't wanna be considered the type for whom "this is the wrong site for you" like.. as if my ego couldn't take the criticism. But ehhhh u.u. I've gone and super-derailed the thread.

I still think The Stairwell is worse. It's just... THAT FACE. It just follows you and stares at you in a dark staircase that is resistant to light. And there's a child yelling for you at the bottom, but the staircase never ends. I don't think it's actually endless, just stupidly long. Document 087-III seems to imply that there is an end, just that it's nearly impossible to reach.

I could not make one of these. I hate the way they often drop you off at any detail at all. I would give you details & they'd hate it. Actually, we honestly prefer more details. It's like, a good article cuts off just enough detail to leave something to the reader's imagination. Too many authors just use it as an excuse not to come up with something interesting. Good expungement is planned beforehand, and the author should have at least some idea of what's behind it. Often, an article might be saved if the author had just come up with something interesting, instead of just putting in endless [DATA EXPUNGED] and [REDACTED]. They see articles like SCP-231, where it's worked really well, but they don't get that it's harder to do a good expungement than to just come up with something that works. Also, is this what you're looking for?

I was mostly joking, but SCP-231 has so much obscured data that I can't even tell what the fuck is going on. Which might be a good thing.
Really, what makes the Bone Hive so effective on me is that I know EXACTLY what it's trying to say, the data obfuscation mostly being there for mood.
I like the SCPs where you can kind of read between the lines. It's fairly obvious that the thing in the maze is the minotaur, or at least a similar monster, even though it doesn't come right out & tell you. By contrast, the staircase (which was very creepy & entertaining overall) kind of felt anticlimactic because the face, the pit, the gouge in the wall, & the thing at the bottom are all just left hanging there.
TL;DR: I don't feel there's any hard-&-fast rule for a good SCP. I have to review them all on a case-by-case basis.
What I was referring to was along this line, but I could swear it was a full article.

While we're on SCPs (and thanks to this thread for turning me onto them!), the persons responsible should be shoved into the world accessible by SCP-093. It IS, afterall, clearly a theocracy (or was, at least back in '53...). I'm sure they could defeat the unclean with the power of prayer, just as they so successfully pray away the gay.

This is the sort of thing that makes me lose faith in humanity. Not just because of the sick people who set up these camps, but the parents and guardians who are either too ignorant, too indoctrinated or too callous to care about the horrible things these places do to people. That attitudes towards children and young people like this are only in the minority (So I would hope) doesn't really change much, and I doubt it gives much solace to those who went through it.
I would also thing there is really only one word that fits these sorts of place. Prison.

Prison? You're being too modest.

I still think "child torture facility" is an accurate summary.

Parents more or less own their kids until they're 18. Exactly. You think slavery ended a century and a half ago? Think again.

And this is happening, in America? These organizations should be exposed on television. I saw one testimony of a woman who once attended an Independent Fundamentalist Baptist church. She was raped, and once confessing this to the pastor, the pastor informed her of Old Testament scripture and said she would be stoned to death if we were in Old Testament times. Later she was required to apologize in front of the entire congregation. I have thought there could be cases where it would be appropriate to burn down a church. This would be one of those times.

Must... control... rage... Forcing her to go to this place is bad enough and quite worthy of my rage and ire, but blaming her for being raped? Hellooooooooooooooooooooooooo Berserk Button!
