This is cool as hell, but on the other hand...like one of the top two rated comments says, Metal Gear Solid, anyone?

That thing is fifteen levels of awesome.
Also, I couldn't help but laugh when it was slipping on the ice.

As cool an accomplishment as it is, I find it really fucking creepy

As cool an accomplishment as it is, I find it really fucking creepy Probably because its movement is so organic that it's the behavioral equivalent of "Uncanny Valley"

This isn't new - in fact I'm almost certain we've had a threat about it before - but it is definitely cool. And, yes, unfathomably creepy. IT CANNOT BE FATHOMED.

I'll be impressed when they stick a railgun on it.

They've had stuff like this around for years now. Color me unimpressed. It's nothing more than a "loo what I can do!!!" toy, not something that has useful real world applications.

I think it looks somewhat like a large four-legged spider. They've had stuff like this around for years now. Color me unimpressed. It's nothing more than a "loo what I can do!!!" toy, not something that has useful real world applications. This general design does have real world applications, even if this model isn't particularly useful. For instance, this design could could patrol heavily forested areas that are not safe for humans. Also, it could be used to hunt down people who have fled into areas that can only be traveled by foot, with the added benefit that a human would tire before it ran out of power. Just imagine it coming for you, that horrible noise with every step it takes, and knowing that it does not understand the concept of giving up or surrender... unless, of course, its prey is the one doing them.

I don't think it would be so useful in a direct attack (with so many intricate moving parts, one shot to the leg would pretty much be guaranteed to put it out of action). But I think where it would really shine is logistics. Just make it faster and quieter, give it homing capabilities and advanced path finding (maybe have it seek out areas where humans are least likely to go) and it could be used to deliver supplies quickly and quietly to deployed special forces teams.

I think it looks somewhat like a large four-legged spider. No, that's not a spider. This, on the other hand... ;D *scowls at the embedding mechanism for not skipping to the time he'd properly inserted into the URL, as he previews this post* The relevant bit starts at the 0:57 mark.

Not at all. After the grenade went off, mankind was blessed with Reese's Pieces.
