Brute force beats technology, assuming you have enough force.

It looks like it's less common these days than it used to be, although it does periodically occur. High-charge lightning mocks our petty "science". That's because it's the Gods' own tool. And the after effect of them bowling.

And the after effect of them bowling. I guess back when lightning rods were new and churches hadn't started using them yet (cause they felt god would protect them), god told them to listen to scientists and use technology by burning down more churches than other buildings (since many used lightning rods, and those churches had prominent steeples). But yeah, lighting can cause lightning rods to melt, especially if the voltage ends up being more than the rod was designed to safely handle. Same principle as electrical fuses, really.

A lightning rod on a church is a poor sign of faith.

As are locks on the doors. That's to keep out Jews and their looting ways. But they assert their God is the only one, so who are they worried about throwing lightning at them?

As are locks on the doors. Ah, but lightning is of God's design, whereas theft is the result of Satan's deception and/or the Fall from grace by Adam and Eve that made subsequent humans sinful. *winces from the pain in the areas of his temples after typing that*
