LHM, if you say something egregiously stupid here, I won't be the only one who will be standing ready to hand you the salt creuet to season your next bite of foot. Now why don't you scamper along back to the 50s now. Israel and Canada beg to differ on the "females in combat" thing, and you don't exactly see Australian marksmen being reprimanded for making kills at two-plus kilometers with a light rifle and bragging about it. Modesty and a touch of civility would do you a world of good. "Best in the world"? Maybe when it comes to taking the piss, mate.

What's truly pathetic is that you can't see just how sexist it is. What's sexist about it?

Uh, best? Excuse me one moment while I laugh my ass off. Yep. Best. The physicality is not an issue at all. I have no doubt whatsoever that women who are physically and mentally at the same standard as male combat soldiers can perform equally well in combat situations. I would have thought that was obvious. The issue, is that they will be integrated units. I'd have thought the issues there would be pretty obvious too.

...so...men falling in love with their male best friends isn't dangerous to the military, but women falling in love with their female best friends is? I can honestly say I've never heard that one. @vs: I'm starting to wonder if, when LHM goes to work, a roommate or random vandal steals his account. Its about the numbers. Homosexuals make up about 10 perceent of the population, give or take. So you don't get the same jealousy/break up/make up/ resentment across an all male unit because of homosexuals as you would with heterosexuals. I guess if you had an all male unit that was significantly higher than 10% gay, you might get the sdame problems

Do they have a different area code?

What was the relevance of the linked thread? How does being a bit confused about whether you are in love with a friend or not have anything to do with gender or combat effectiveness? Imagine the sort of feelings and confusion in the linked thread occuring under fire. Depends who you ask. They're right up there too. Tip of the hat to the Foreign Legion as well.

by that logic, men and woman shouldn't be allowed to work in the same office buildings because they might have relationships that might become disruptive.
the majority of people ought to be able to keep these issues from being too disruptive, and if they can't the offending individuals can be transfered to different units.

So, wait. In other words, cohesion's destroyed, so blame the women and not the morons without sufficient discipline to carry on with the new recruits business-as-usual and keep their shit tucked? Yeah...

Our military has managed to incorporate female soldiers without having the army turn into one big high school clique.

How so? eta: Here in Canada, females have been serving on the front lines for years, and we haven't had any issues with the "dynamic". And before anyone says that our military sucks/doesn't do anything, please keep in mind that we've been very active in Afghanistan, and had numerous soldiers die over there, including someone I went to school with. Do Candian female soldiers serve in combat units? Infantry, armour, artillery and/or engineers?

So the problem we'd face is that the men are too immature to handle serving with women. Gotcha.
And you're serious about the best thing? Let me laugh even harder.

If I recall correctly, it's only certain Navy submarine positions that are restricted -- women can serve in any other role, provided they pass the requisite tests.
