My eyes glazed over for most of that post...up until you mentioned Rush. I like Rush. I have no idea about the theory and all that behind music, I only know the very basics of acoustics, so. Um. All I know is that I like them. ...shit, THAT'S what I should've bought with those extra eMusic points. I used to listen to "Tom Sawyer" and "New World Man" all the time... fuck. I get that a lot. I'm a total music geek. I am neither proud nor ashamed of it, I just am what I am. It's hard to get into sock-substitute guitar techniques and prog without touching upon theory, though. I bring up Rush especially because they were both capable of being "prog" and writing good songs. Rush has influenced a lot of modern acts like Dream Theter, who seem to have missed the point entirely. I'm not bashing theory. I took a lot of theory and composition classes in college (pre-nervous breakdown), and I think they can make you a better musician. They can also, which is more what I wanted, help you understand music as a whole. If you want "technical that sounds good," though, Rush knew their shit. Sometimes they get a little wanky, but still. Queen did it. The Who did it, too...Though again, Pete Townshend's known for a bit of masturbation. Come to think of it, Brian May's 45 minute "Brighton Rock" solo is a good example of "no." The Beach Boys had many songs which are fucking brilliant that are about girls, cars, and surfing. Brian Wilson wrote some genius music that went along with some of the lightest, fluffiest shit you can imagine, and they managed to keep it radio friendly in terms of length. None of this "make the song 13 minutes long so we can fit in a few more meter changes" crap. Hell, Queen (again) influenced Prog, but they were the ones who put out "We Will Rock You" and "We Are the Champions." A song which is mostly "stomp stomp clap" and a song with the throwaway line "No time for losers." Oh, and the Beatles, before they got kind of pretentious, still wrote some clever stuff and hit pop radio waves. Err...Hopefully that was a little less glaze worthy. I didn't really mention muchtechnical, just tried to illustrate dense music that could still hit the radio waves. I remember writing poetry in one of my English classes, and I wrote shit that I knew the teacher would like. She had specific tastes, and to get A's, you had to know them and finesse her. I loathed writing that stuff, because it has never impacted my writing ability. It didn't benefit me, except getting me through a class I needed, and it just didn't read or sound good. I've written stuff in the style of beat poetry, music from punk to metal, and so on, but this was an educational exercise only. And at best, that's my problem with prog bands. Don't know if that makes more sense. My theory teachers, on the other hand, encouraged people to write their own styles. We had people composing Afro-Cuban influenced pop, a metalhead, a classically trained pianist who wrote a lot of nuanced, soft stuff, and some asshole rocker with a love for power chords....Don't know who THAT was....>.>

I WOULD IF I COULD. ARE YOU PAYING FOR A TICKET TO AND FROM VERMONT FOR ME??? Brain...Melting...Thoughts...Impure...Reaching filth...Overload... Genres are 80% bullshit. I tend to use generic ones like "rock" and "jazz," but when things straddle borders and whatnot, I tend not to get too anal. I laughed out loud, literally, when I discovered the band Extra Fancy was referred to as "queercore." Granted, Brian Grillo is gay, and so are the lyrics (not in a bad way, but seriously, they are clearly about homosexual things like sex with men and...Well, that's pretty much where the gay comes in). There are, at last count, 9,000 subgenres of metal, and any band is likely to occupy at least 2,000 of them. I stopped caring when "Emo" became a real thing. Even ignoring the douche who will invariably come along and direct you to forfa.ca or whatever, when your primary definition is that your music is "emotional," I don't care if you slap "hardcore" on the end, your qualifications. Are. Silly. Hence, I have since called all emo Wusscore. Because it's silly and so are they. I'm knowledgable on bands, so I understand the roots of a lot of these things. But I still don't buy into it. I can argue the technicalities of genres, but it's all stupid.

MarzGurl reviewed The Secret of NIMH.
Furries everywhere creamed themselves. XD And it was full of audio sex for me, 'cause I think Marz has a wonderful voice. =)
Speaking of women with wonderful voices, I got to watch the NChick/Lupa crossover. Oh MAN was it awesome! XD And thus, a stalking triangle is born! Todd stalks Lupa, who stalks Lindsay, who stalks Todd! =D *ducks from the explosion of fanfics*
........interesting how I've only used the explosion of fanfics in just one review of mine and yet... I keep it going. *ponders ways it can fit into future reviews*

Not entirely related, but I'm annoyed that Welshy keeps doing horror reviews, because I don't give a damn about them.
Scream, okay. Everything else, pushing it.

No, we HATES Spoony! Love! HATE! I haven't come across a lot of Spoony opinions I hate, but I do know the feeling. Though it hasn't shattered my personality like a ring-obsessed hobbit predecessor, but still. What did he say that pissed you off? Out of curiosity. Personally, I tend to give people a lot of leeway on "smug," because I tend to get shoved in there along with elitist and snob and evil. Those are totally all false. Even the evil. I just get bored, okay?
