I've wanted to hit someone in anger, but being sane, I'm always held back. Which is the point. The difference between a monster and a compassionate human being is where you don't act on your first impulse.

Prision is appropriate, of course, but you gotta think this is heat of the moment stuff, and who here HASN'T flown off the handle in response to some petty, insignificant crap? To the point of beating someone to death? *raises hand* I sure as hell haven't. Hence I said "prison is appropriate". However, there is a significant difference between coming in, seeing the kid has killed the TV and flying into a rage about it and striking out with excessive force, and coldly planning to kill someone. If your first reaction out of anger is to hit something, especially a human being, you need help. This. This again. When I'm angry my first instinct is to lash out verbally, not physically.

Sure, people do stuff without thinking when they're angry, but how can you be that angry over a stupid television? Hitting him is never an option. A child should mean way more to their parent than a TV.

A child should mean way more to their parent than a TV. In hindsight, I'm sure she probably agrees with that more than anyone else. Heat of the moment though. As a parent, I make an effort when I am about to lose my cool to take myself out of the situation. Not everyone is as enlightened or self aware as I am.

My brothers yanked a TV off the entertainment system when they were little, and they were about 5 or 6 when it happened. You wanna know what my mom did? Hurriedly checked them for cuts/scrapes/bruises and sobbed at the thought that they could've seriously hurt themselves. If your first reaction out of anger is to hit something, especially a human being, you need help. QFT The first thing a parent or someone looking after a child should do is check and make sure the child is alright. Then explain to the child what they did wrong and how to be more careful. I've never come close to hitting someone out of anger. And not to make light of a child dying but was that the TV that was broken in the picture? It's a big box tube TV that doesn't look more than 24" I could see flipping out and punishing, not hitting, if a LCD/LED/3D/other new expensive TV was broken, but some TV you've had since the early 90's, even if you don't have the money to replace it, oh well you got a decent amount of time out of that TV, be thankful your child wasn't hurt and replace it when you can.

I doubt she could have killed him if she only hit him once. I can't imagine hitting my child at all, but to not immediately have a "wtf was I thinking I am so sorry" moment?. Instead she hit him again. And probably again. That's what doesn't make sense.

You know, sometimes I fly into rages. Sometimes I hit things. But even I know not to hit someone that little, and always to stop before causing any damage. This person didn't stop, and did it for such a stupid reason. It's... gaaah.

When a lawyer looks to be wanting a guilty decision too you're in trouble. The jury is going to hang her.

Which she fairly honestly deserves.

This is probably the 5000th time I've wished I were a silurian, or a Vinvocci, or anything other than human
