Funny, I was always taught that a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be sold, or have one or both parents sold, than to be raised by both mom and dad. Did someone forget their 8th grade history classes? Tsk.

Quick Someone find me a man! You do realize you'd also have to get within 5 yards of a kid, too, right? Those restraining orders are gonna be a bitch to circumvent.

I find it weird that restraining orders don't specify what kind of restraints to use.

Funny, I was always taught that a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be sold, or have one or both parents sold, than to be raised by both mom and dad. Did someone forget their 8th grade history classes? Tsk. Keep in mind what history classes teach vary greatly. My Yankee history classes glossed over the fac t that us northerners tacitly funded slavery by doing things like building, selling, and even sometimes crewing the ships while still looking down on them confederate hicks. I knew this because my dad was an anal history obsessive, but that's a different story. I'm probably the only kid in New England to ever get yelled at by a teacher for insisting Columbus didn't try to prove the world was round. And if she called me a "fucking cunt rag," I'd have a Kevin Smith story. Still, certain elements are whitewashed, others merely vary. By the way, I'm picking up the implication that this is really a "black" issue, anyway. Something common in this country today. While it's hardly considered a good thing that white folk abandon their kids, it's more heavily frowned on when a black woman's a single mom, and seems to be treated as "typical." Further, the burden seems to be shifted to the mother for screwing a black guy, rather than the absentee father, as is the case with a lot of lower class whites. Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but this is kind of a thing...And a thing one should probably be aware of before preaching the virtues of blacks as slaves because at least they had family values.

In most states, two slaves couldn't have a legally recognized, Christian marriage. This is because the owner could, on a whim, sell one spouse or a child to another plantation, destroying the family. Which was apparently totally okay if the couple wasn't officially married. Oh, also, it would have been morally wrong for the slaveholder to rape the slave women if they were married. But then, this is just more evidence that the "traditional marriage" crowd doesn't know anything about the actual history of marriage. This is what really frustrates me about conservatives, they have no idea how the "good old days" were really like, they just make up their own reality of the past just like they do to the present. I swear, they're not trying to drag us to the "old days" of America they're trying to drag us to a time that never existed, which kinda scares me to be frank. I agree completely. John Oliver expressed it perfectly in a segment for the Daily Show a few years ago. www.thedailyshow.com/watch/tue-january-5-2010/even-better-than-the-real-thing?xrs=share_copy

Yes. A black infant would be brought up with a mother and father until one of them was sold to another master and never seen again.
So much better than gay adoption!

Dear Sweet Odin I hope she gets the Republican nomination. I just want to watch the debates..I want to see her get annihilated. It would be AMAZING.

Or beaten to death for disobedience, failure to work as much as they "should," or simply because the owner was feeling frustrated. Oh, the joys of slavery...Where you were considered a beast of burden, but at least you had a momma and a daddy....Until they got "uppity."

Well, it's not like there are that many of them to go around in the first place. My sociology teacher in undergrad pointed out that 1 in 3 black boys born will not live to see his 18th birthday. This is a much higher child mortality rate than any other group in America.
