We just need to give them a clear example of what it is like when a president commits treason.
For example, a POTUS sells weapons to Iran, then give the profits to terrorist death squads guilty of killing innocent people, including a few Americans, even after Congress specifically told the administration to stop providing aid to those death squads. This would be providing aid or comfort to the enemies of the United States. This is treason. *cough Reagan cough*
Receiving oral sex and lying about it-- not treason.
Killing Osama bin Laden... or whatever it is they're pissed off about-- not treason

I think it's because he has an Islamic name and so he MUST be Muslim and if he's Muslim then he's a terrorist and if he's a terrorist then he's committing treason against the USA by being president. So ordering the death of Osama Bin Laden is the act of a terrorist? What would a real 'Patriot' like Fraulein Bachman have done instead? Who says terrorists can't fight among themselves? |

Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann said Thursday that Americans are alarmed that President Barack Obama may cut defense spending at a time when the Soviet Union is becoming a power in the world. Ok, maybe she meant to say 'resurgence', but somehow I doubt it... (I'm sure she'll come out with more whacky statements in the future, hence the open thread title) I believe that the word should have been socialism, as it's a nice buzzword to make teabaggers angry without realizing that roads, textbooks, employment offices and fire departments such are also SOCIALISMSESEESSSES! And holy shit, how can anyone balance a budget with military expenditures like that?? It just goes to show how much of her grey matter is calcified. |

But not anywhere near as mainstream as some of the shit that's going on right now.
Of course, that's at least partially due to the sudden shift towards radical conservatism after 9/11. Still, it's hard to believe that race isn't an influencing factor, to whichever degree.
