GET THIS AUTHENTIC 9/11 COMMEMORATIVE GOLD COIN, WORTH OVER $100.00 FOR ONLY $19.95! BUY IT OR THE TERRORISTS WIN, YOU UNPATRIOTIC FUCK.

"What is our children learning."~George Bush.
Huh.
I like the commentor that claims "freedom-hating Muslim radicals" is a "perfectly factual" statement.

Am I the only one who hated this type of thing from the beginning? I remember a few weeks after 9/11 they had this show called "Babies of 9/11" and they interviewed the remaining parents and showed the infants in a big room. Yes, it's sad that all those babies will grow up not knowing one or both parents, but even at age 12 it seemed so cheap to me. They were using a national tragedy and the knowledge that America loves babies to make money.

There's only one thing 9/11 wise that I have bought and it's a book called What We Saw. It's a book commemorating the event and has a DVD of CBS' coverage. That's the ONLY thing and I think it was actually free because my dad got it on the military base. That's the only thing 9/11 wise that I have in my house.

I saw that magazine with the exact same subject. . . yesterday at a Wal-mart. Can we let it rest in peace and respect and not use it a propaganda?

Memo to Americans: I'm fairly certain they didn't make commemorative coins for Pearl Harbor or the War of 1812 (specifically the burning of the capital). Tragedies aren't there for you to make money.

Classy. as. fuck.
I want to rant a bit about this—I mean really, seriously rant about it—for just a second if you guys don't mind. I lost a friend in the September 11th attacks. Things like what happened on September 11th are obviously tragic and hard to deal with in their own right—even when you or someone you know isn't directly affected by them—but losing a friend made it something deeply personal to me. When you're a Sophomore in high school, you just aren't equipped to handle things like that (if you ever are). Hell, almost ten years later, it's still hard sometimes.
As much as I snark at this kind of exploitative tacky-ass shit, it still really gets to me when I see people milking what happened for what it's worth. It nearly makes me physically ill. It ain't easy to see people doing what essentially amounts to exploiting your friend's death for profit while impervious onlookers play along with the festivities and seem completely oblivious to what's wrong with all this fucking "memorabilia"—the "commemorative" 0.0001% gold coins, the tacky t-shirts, the pseudo-patriotic bumper-stickers, the made-in-China American flags, the goddamn motherfucking coloring books—all of it is a very special kind of disgusting to me. What's even more disgusting, though, is that these clueless halfwits feel patriotic buying this shit. Fuck, their 9/11 kitsch collection makes them feel downright warm and fuzzy inside, like they're somehow showing their "support" or making a "difference." What the hell, people? What the hell?
But this thread actually made me feel better. It feels good to actually see ridiculous shit like this called out for what it is and mocked relentlessly instead of being mindlessly played along with. In fact, that's probably why I love to snark the hell out of it and call it out for the tasteless dumbfuckery it is.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend, Shykid. I don't blame you for being angry about the exploitation -- I didn't lose anyone in the attacks, and I get incredibly angry when I see this stuff, so I can only imagine how it makes you feel.

Honestly? I am sick to death of 9/11.
For some reason, we as a nation seem to think that it's perfectly healthy to keep re-opening wounds.

I never want to forget, but there's a fine line between "remembering" something and "reveling" in it.
