Except Muslims invented algebra. Oopz.
Most of the comments are actually sane, like "ooooh, ahhh," "so prettyful," etc.
Fuck, nevermind.
Do you jackasses really, truly, honestly think all the money that went into this project was specifically just so they could take this one photo and nothing else? Is your brain that addled on FOX News? The damn article itself even explains otherwise, fuck. And these projects are employing people. Do you think someone threw some money at the wall, and this technology just invented itself with no human intervention? Get rid of this stuff (which also drives--or even becomes--other more "practical" advancements, I might add), and the people who make it happen will, lo and behold, be unemployed.
Also, some dumbfuck also posted a link to the article itself in the comments...

Religious wharrgarbl aside, that photo is fucking amazing. That might just be my second favorite space photo ever. Nothing tops the Hubble Ultra Deep Field for me.

I just showed this to my daughter and explained that it was a movie of Saturn to which she distainfully exclaimed "I know (Jesus dad, what do you think I am, an idiot?)"
Knowing that she is well on her way to learning the art of bluffing I decided to call her on it and asked her how she knew.
"Because of the rings dad. (you big dummy)"
She started kindergarden yesterday.

How dare you spend 3.2 billion on a probe launched in 1997 when you could've spent it in 2011 on reducing the deficit instead! Seriously, what is wrong with you America, can't you see 14 years into the future?

To the credit of the commentors, if you show me a bunch of synthesized and real images of Saturn, I might not be able to tell the difference.

Probably in part cause those synthesised pictures are made using the real ones as reference.

Certainly. Also the lack of reference points. Do you know when the last time I saw Saturn up close was?

The thing that always gets me is that they always treat NASA like it's throwing our money up into space, when we get a lot of that money back in new technologies. Except in this case, when it's obviously a gummit conspiracy.
