DSPS is the single most commonly misdiagnosed disorder on the planet. It is misdiagnosed so often that it is commonly referred to as "The Invisible Disorder." I've been told that I'm just 'depressed' (which apparently kicks in when you're about two or three, before the child even has a chance to experience anything that WOULD make them depressed), and I had ANOTHER doctor tell me that he thought I had Disassociative Personality Disorder (AKA: Multiple Personalities!!). Others could be diagnosed as having ADD or ADHD, and other similar disorders, due to the effects of sleep deprivation.
And after fighting with sleep medications, anti-depressents, and even anti-psychotics, I came across an article on DSPS and I finally found something that actually MATCHED my fucking symptoms. You'd think with how many people have the disorder that more doctors would recognize it for what it is... >.<

(11 PM-7 AM, although we're usually out by 5 or so). We work the same hours. And we're both (some of the time) on Staten Island? What're the odds of that?

I've been told that I'm just 'depressed' (which apparently kicks in when you're about two or three, before the child even has a chance to experience anything that WOULD make them depressed), Depression can be caused by many factors, including (and quite often) problems with serotonin. I'm not sure how often people become depressed due to experiences rather than less visible environmental and biological effects.

I could swear I have this. I would go to bed around 4-5 AM and wake up at 5-6 PM. I have tried and tried to maintain a normal diurnal schedule but it would only last for a while and then revert back to what it was before.
Everyone, my mom, my psychiatrist, my doctor would get on my case about "sleeping a more proper schedule." But when I explain that I try to but it reverts they all act like I am not trying hard enough.
My psychiatrist has me on Seroquel, Lithium, and Clonezepam but even if I go to bed at 11 PM because I have an appt or something, my body and mind still doesn't shut down until about 5 AM.
It sucks.
Also I have had bouts of insomnia that lasted for 48 hours before. Not fun. Though I don't have those that much anymore and will have insomnia that will last at least 24 hours at a time.

My psychiatrist has me on Seroquel, Lithium, and Clonezepam... Um, is the last of those for acute treatment or as a daily medicine? If the latter I advise you find a new psychiatrist on grounds that the current one is fucking clueless. That one is very bad for long-term daily use. First two are kosher, though I find it odd that you're on Seroquel and lithium together. The latter of the two strongly suggests you're bipolar, and it alone is a very popular drug for monotherapy in bipolar unless you are very prone to intense manic phases and lithium toxicity is preventing a sufficiently high dose be used.
